Some of the many Features of LaRPS

Compact HUD

The HUD has been designed to accommodate needed information in a small space. There are large numbers that are easier to read for important values, such as Health and Strength, and also show Target Name. The HUD areas can be clicked on to give quick access to those areas, such as clicking on Health shows you your Healing menu.

Party

This feature enables you to create a Team Party and even invite others to your team. It doesn't have to be a team, it could be a family clan, an group of friends, anything you want. Your character shet lists your party members giving extra information such as titles/roles and hunger status. Quite useful for Vampire clans. As a team party, this helps to manage groups of players in an immediate combat situation who are close together. The party name is displayed on the overhead meter like a badge. Of course, you may edit the party roles at any time, such as General, Private, King, Queen, etc. :)

Target

An intuitive targetting system is implemented. Gone are the days of cast a spell then pick a name from a menu. It is fast, intuitive and lag free. LaRPS uses NO SENSOR AT ALL. This means the system responds immediately. This will also help Melee fighters as you no longer accidentaly hit the wrong person. The only person you hit is the one you target. The Target system is very simple to use and for those who play other 3D combat games, you will have no problem using the system. Simply touch the target you want and they are targetted. This may be a simple chest of treasure, a door to be lockpicked or a player.

Equip

You are able to increase your melee damage with different scales. You can use any weapon attachment and no special API is required, meaning you don't have to spend lots of cash on expensive weapons. Any will do. You have IronFist, IronSword, IronDual and IronHammer. These scale from fast and low damage up to slow and high damage. Equiping an item does take Strength and having low strength means a fail. There is also the ability to RemoveIron and RemoveArmor, in the case of capture or you just wish to repair your weapons and armor back to full capacity. This is a welcome change for those wishing to refresh their IronArmor. Never a good idea to drop your protection in mid-combat though.

Hunger

A needed statistic for your player. This starts off at 0% but as you RP throughout the day, your Hunger increases. In order to satisfy your Hunger, you may feed from special food objects that are found in the game area, or a spell caster could use the ability "Gorge" which will convert Power into food. Some races, like Vampire, are able to use BiteThem, which not only damages the target but would satisfy a portion of your Hunger. There are also NPCs (like the famous chickens and squirrels in Legacies), which drop meat when killed. Meat can be eaten.

Abilities

Besides the anticipated Hunger there are complementary abilities added. "Gorge" is one which convert your power into food. There is also "SapThem" which weakens your target. "MuteThem" which will silence the target from using spells and abilities. There's also a built in range attack ability, "Missile", which launches an energy bolt at the target.

Merits

Show how much you love your fellow role-player. Yes, players may award a Merit to the whomever you think deserves one. If you play with an honest and good role-player then by giving them a merit, it shows your appreciation for the scene. This not only binds play but enforces the all important player respect which is the foundation of good RP. Anti-abuse features won't let you Merit the same person all the time.

DiceRoll

This is one of my favorite features. The streamlined the diceroll process, so that it's even simpler. Yes, the classic 3d10, d10 etc are there but you have simpler and easier choices in the rolling process. Located on the HUD is the Dice, as well as from the main menu. You have a choice of what you want to Dice Roll for. This can be:

Target (Character versus the selected Target)

Used for casting against the selected Target (see above for Target).

Harm

This is for obvious damage such as throwing an object at someone, casting fire, nightmares etc. Anything that would harm the target. Yes, this works on the NPCs and yes, it WILL automatically deliver a calculated health damage to the target.

Assist

This is used for giving health back to the target by way of casting an ability such as healing spells, potions or simply bandaging a wound or other assistance.

Discovery

My classic Discovery Roll. This is to try and find some information from your target. It could be an injection of truth potion, or simply to find out "what's in the box". :P

Environment (Character Versus Environment)

Used for performing a physical action against the area around yourself, such as buildings, chairs, cars, tables etc. This is used where the RP isn't able to select a specific Target. You are asked the size of the object: Small, Medium, Heavy or Huge. The result will depend on your Strength and Dexterity.

Cosmetics and Role Play Chat

The system has been improved further to ensure total immersion into your game. Chat logs are cleaner and display Character Names correctly. Just like in previous release of LaRPS, you are able to take your chat log and save it as your story of the scene with practically no modifications. There are further enhancements to /2... Now you can whisper, shout and provide further commands to help your paragraph of text,

Example input: "/2m waves to the lady."
Displays as: [00:00] TriJin waves to the lady.

Example input: "/2s Oi! Get over here."
Displays as: [00:00] TriJin shouts, "Oi! Get over here."

Example input: "/2w I know a secret."
Displays as: [00:00] TriJin whispers, "I know a secret."

Example input: "/2 As the cold wind blows, [me] walks slowly, down the path towards [them]."
Displays as: [00:00] As the cold wind blows, TriJin walks slowly, down the path towards Fidgette.

Detailed Character Sheets

There are secure options to protect your character sheet from prying eyes and metagamers. Only you, the player may view your complete sheet. You will find there is much more to display. You may see a history of all your EXP awards, Merits, Transaction of RP currency and Quests. You will also see extended statistics like your Social Factor, Magical Skill, Damage Mitigation Percentage and more. This will enable you to not only see at a glance your current status, but give you goals to achieve things with your character. You will also notice further options to not only manage your Characters, but you may edit much further details about your characters. This includes Goals, Likes, Dislikes, Backstory, images and more.

You also get a public character sheet based on your character. You can specify a character image and a public story for those who wish to know more about you. There is no visual link to your actor/avatar in any way on the page and there are no vital statistics to meta-game from. Characters can be searching for by using the search on the top of the home page, or by clicking a character link from the Leaderboards.

Multiple Characters

Yes, if the Game Realm accepts and allows multiple characters, you can create an unlimited number of characters in the same Realm. This means you can create throw away NPCs, experimental characters, characters for a specific scene, besides your main one. Each character is treated as a seperate entity and inter-character transfer of money and EXP isn't possible. This gives you flexibility. In the old days, you had to reroll characters, thus losing all that valuable information. In the new way, you have your complete journey recorded for your development. This also helps Game Realms as some players may want to try reaching Legendary in one race, complete the goal, then reaching Legendary in a new race. Thereby giving challenges to role-play and, hopefully, expand your player enjoyment further.

Learning Abilities

This is the big thing. As you know, everyone has the same spells and abilities throughout their levels. However, in v0.25 you may "learn" that ability to give more power to it. An example would be learning the ability HealThem. Everyone has this ability at Novice level but by Learning, you can advance that ability to "Skilled" then "Expert" and finally "Legendary". As the name suggests, Novice would only impact a small amount but Legendary would give the biggest amount of healing or effect. Learning an ability can be done at any time as long as you have enough Character Points. Internal points are given at each learning stage and the system will allocate them based on what you do. If you hack n slash a lot, then your melee is improved. If you heal a lot, up goes your healing. If your sit around all day, then nothing much will happen at all. The ultimate goal to achieve for your character would be to learn every ability to Legendary status.

Level Ups and Points

The biggest and most controversal of all the changes.

No manual point distribution to your main stats. "OMG, WTF" you say. Let me explain. The old way of doing it with just about every single system meant you put points in stats then go out and kill, RP, whatever. Sometimes you just put points into a stat that you think may affect a better way of enduring damage. Then find out it doesn't work, reroll, repeat, rinse and let out to dry. You just lost valuable time enjoying role-playing and get immersed into a virtual world.

In the new way, first you start with a basic setup, based on your chosen Race and perhaps an appropriate Profession... THEN you go out and kill, RP, run around, etc. Whilst you are enjoying your time in the game itself, LaRPs is busy in the background doing your job for you. LaRPS has a built-in AI system that actually knows what you are doing and will automatically place points immediately for you. Yes, IMMEDIATELY. So if you run around and walk a lot, your Dexterity is increased. If your casting spells or performing abilities a lot, then your Learning and Magical stats increase. If you got hit and damaged a lot, then your Endurance is automatically increased. There's much more that happens in the background.

What does this all mean? Well, it means you don't need to get interrupted in the middle of RP to satify those irritating Level Up dialogs. It also means that your character matches EXACTLY what you really do in the game. This ensures complete fairness and also stops any wasted points. Many players have no idea what Endurance would affect on their character, so this way, you don't really need to know. You just know that suddenly your armor is better.

Improved StoryTeller Functions

For the StoryTeller, there are numerous helpers. You will now be able to see Speak As Race translations immediately. You will also be able to use the Target features to quickly grab a player to Award/Merit them. You will also no longer need any DiceRoll Charts to lookup Successes/Fails. When the player Dice Rolls, you will see from the chat log what kind of result it will be. Critical fail, normal, stellar success, etc. This will let you immediately StoryTell without the need to move away from the scene window. This will also ensure complete fairness for the player, as there is no way the StoryTeller can influence the players success or failure.

Sentinel Radar

The beloved Sentinel has undergone some improvement. It is split into three sections.

"Location"

This is the name of the location where you are standing. Rather like parcels names but are also vertical. So think of 3d Parcels. This also complements the command "/9where am i" which list your current geographic location description in your chat.

"Within RP range"

This lists characters within 20 meters RP range so you know they will "hear" you and can be affected by your abilities.

"Party Members"

Characters listed here, belong to the same team Party group as yourself. It lists their Health state. Quite a big helper for Healers.

More fails, means greater success

Yes, more fails means greater success. As you Dice Roll or use the built-in abilities and actually score misses, critical fails or total fails, the system will actually improve your chances the next time. This is the same as hammering on metal, it gets tempered. So failing isn't such a bad thing at all.

Any more?

Yes, there's so much more.... All I can say at the moment is to stay tuned for the developments. :)
