[17:04] Rhyssa Prather: The largest part of this is Character Depth. One of the first things I suggest for players it to write a biography about their characters, what they have lived already
[17:04] Rhyssa Prather: A few basic questions can really help you with this.
[17:04] Rhyssa Prather: Where did they come from?
[17:05] Rhyssa Prather: Who where their parents?
[17:05] Rhyssa Prather: How did their parents treat them? Where they loving? Or did one parent not like them? Did they come out of an abusive situation?
[17:05] Rhyssa Prather: Have they ever been married? To Who? What happened to cause the marriage to fall apart?
[17:05] Rhyssa Prather: How did their spouse, if any, treat them?
[17:05] Rhyssa Prather: Have they ever been betrayed?

[17:06] Rhyssa Prather: To help with this, I'm going to hand out a basic character template card, it's great for coming up with basic questions that you might not have thought of!

[17:08] Rhyssa Prather: Giving your character a detailed history is a great way to make your character better.
[17:09] Rhyssa Prather: Now if you look over that template, I'm sure some of you are going. I already know my character! Right? I made her!
[17:09] Rhyssa Prather: Or him.
[17:09] Rhyssa Prather: But putting it down on paper helps us remember it it also gives us a reference to go back to
[17:09] Rhyssa Prather: in case we do forget a detail like a name, a date in time.

[17:10] Rhyssa Prather: Or the like. For one, I can never remember what day my character was icishly born *derps*
[17:10] Rhyssa Prather: The second thing you can do to make your character shine is figure out the strengths and weaknesses of your character.
[17:11] Lillyanna Avedon: I don't like writing out personality, personally, because I prefer to let the character tell me how they will feel so to speak

[17:11] Riely Bonham: It's worse because I have an IC sister.. so we had to write where we were from together, but I forget how old we are...
[17:11] Rhyssa Prather: Something that is very fun about playing up your strengths and weakneses is that weaknesses and strengths can be fun to play!
[17:11] Rhyssa Prather: Something that's fun about weakness is it can be anything..a realistic character just like me..or you..most of them have faults...sometimes big gaping ones..and sometimes little ones.

[17:17] Rhyssa Prather: Some characters might have better resistance to fire, but more exception to shadow, or water. It really depends on how you wish to play your character.

[17:18] Rhyssa Prather: Another great tool to give your character depth is ...I know most of us end up in some form of combat at some point, or just injured out of sheer blind lucky. *laugh*
[17:19] Rhyssa Prather: After being injured, you have a wonderful rp choice...to have a scar, or to not have a scar...to be or not to be! Some of the best rp looks are those that are pulled of by disfiguring scars.

[17:20] Rhyssa Prather: there's many different ways to rp it..if you dont' want to walk around looking like you've been in a battleground, don't. It's a personal choice, but be aware that the choice exists

[17:21] Rhyssa Prather: As far as I know, there's no law that says "Vampires cannot scar!" in Legacies :)

[17:21] Rhyssa Prather: As long as it's plausable, you can rp it. If you can make it plausable for a scar to remain? Feel free to do so.

[17:24] Rhyssa Prather: It might have a special meaning to them, or be something they are ashamed of.

[17:25] Rhyssa Prather: Birthmarks, scars, and markings can show great character depth, feel free to use them as long as it's plausable. Now if you have a birthmark that's a map of london on your buttocks, someone might call you on plasuablity

[17:26] Rhyssa Prather: Also something to consider is your character's traits...
[17:26] Pseudo Thespian: Pardon me but I must excuse myself.

[17:27] Rhyssa Prather: are they foulmouthed? Passionate, do they have an accent? Are they exceptionally intelligent but extremely small minded? Are they loyal? Ambievelant? Overly emotional perhaps? Or do they really enjoy a good rowdy arguement with someone.
[17:29] Rhyssa Prather: Also a great thing is , what makes your character angry, what makes them want to fight someone, what makes them afraid, scared for their lives...every person has something that really bugs them, and maybe your character does too. It's very realistic to have a character that has something they are scared of.
[17:29] Rhyssa Prather: Although it doesn't have to be a weakness, it can be rather fun.
[17:29] Rhyssa Prather: Fear can also be a strength...keep them out of trouble for instance. if they are so shy.
[17:30] Rhyssa Prather: But for instance, my character is terrified of dragons, leeches, and itty bitty crawly things. She will literally crawl on a chair if she see's a bug..and this is only ooc knowledge *laugh*
[17:31] Rhyssa Prather: So, can anyone tell me a habit or quirk of a character?
[17:31] Rhyssa Prather: Maybe yours, or just a cool one you've noticed?
[17:32] Rhyssa Prather: For instance...a quirk or habit is a physical thing a character does often that most of the time goes unnoticed.

[17:33] Rhyssa Prather: Examples...only able to perk one eyebrow at a time? Picks or chews on fingernails, pops fingers, won't step on sidewalk cracks..counts out...everything...

[17:33] Rhyssa Prather: And quite common, it's a great way to show uncertainity or even fear.
[17:34] Rhyssa Prather: Hmm..how about we do some fun questions, and you can see if you can answer them or even just use them to think about your character's depth.
[17:34] Rhyssa Prather: Who can tell me if their character is a lefty or a righty?

[17:35] Rhyssa Prather: It's the little details of your characters that make them interesting..things like raising only your left hand, or reaching for a doorhandle with both hands.
[17:36] Rhyssa Prather: What's your character's favorite color? Mine despises pink. Pink needs to die. But she adores black.

[17:37] Izala Beltza (nimue.macbeth): she has a monotone voice very soft.. seems to taste the air with her tongue... always asking questions.. Has the ability to annoy others with out trying

[17:38] Rhyssa Prather: Maybe when your character approaches a color she/he doesn't like, they'll wrinkel their nose in distaste?
[17:38] Rhyssa Prather: That kind of rp brings a character to life many times.
[17:38] Rhyssa Prather: And shows real depth.
[17:38] Izala Beltza (nimue.macbeth): aslong as she is covered and it isnt a pastel color
[17:38] Lillyanna Avedon: I know I wrinkle my nose at swer water scent :P
[17:38] Rhyssa Prather: Which is why it's important to know their dislikes and likes.
[17:38] Alina Drogomir has an Eastern European accent that gets worse when she is tired or doing a cognitive task which requires more focus than her speech

[17:39] Rhyssa Prather: How about this one for size. Bathing habits? Do they bathe regularly? Or do they jump in the water to get clean? Do they smell like saltwater? Or do they not bathe?

[17:40] Rhyssa Prather: Maybe they have a favorite book, and quote it when they are annoyed...I know a character that quotes shakesphere to others when they get irritated. Quite funny.

[17:41] Rhyssa Prather: Their favorite memory? Their favorite holiday, their favorite person? Someone that they dislike, all this shows a great deal of depth to a character.
[17:42] Rhyssa Prather: Details about your character are important to know, that way you can make them interesting.
[17:42] Rhyssa Prather: Also knowing how your character reacts in situations
[17:43] Rhyssa Prather: Your character just got splashed with mud..how do they react?
[17:43] Rhyssa Prather: Are they angry? Do they drop down and roll around in it?

[17:45] Rhyssa Prather: Now, almost everyone has something about themselves they'd change if they could...appearance wise. It's a great thing to do to your character as well. Think about what your character's most hated part of their appearance is?

[17:59] Rhyssa Prather: So those are some character tips, things to avoid, plausability and realism are key. Details are beautiful :)
[18:00] Rhyssa Prather: Get to know your character if you don't already, figure out all the dirty littel details, the skeletons in the closet.
[18:00] Sasha Branagh: the more you interact, ,the more you do..the better off for your char..to be as well rounded as you can get
[18:00] Rhyssa Prather: Very true Sasha, and when you roleplay with people, make sure that you react too.
[18:00] Rhyssa Prather: Even if it's just sticking your nose in the air.
