Class: 2010 November 17: Guest Lecture Genesis on Alchemy

(1 post)
  1. Leigh Huet | November 18, 2010 - 04:05 AM

[07:02 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: I'm Genesis Barthelmess, and I'll be your guest lecturer for today
    [07:03 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: waves
    [07:03 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom claps
[07:03 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Today we are going to be studying a subject that actually more people should have showed up for, because to be honest it rules. Today we are going to open the door to the other part of the world. Today...we learn about Alchemy
[07:03 PM] Serafina Ezvalt beams ready to learns
[07:03 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So what /is/ alchemy? Anyone?
[07:04 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: chemicals and metals, fusion?
[07:04 PM] Leigh Huet: is it metalworks?
[07:04 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: Welll it is metal
[07:04 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: real or fantasy wise?
[07:04 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ...i stopped
[07:04 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: changing lead to gold?
[07:04 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: All pretty good answers
[07:04 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: or siron
    [07:04 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: iron*
[07:04 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: but it is symbols right?
[07:04 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And all of them are fairly correct. Alchemy historycally has tried to do one thing
[07:05 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Turn things into other things.
    [07:05 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: nods
[07:05 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But we are going to use the more fantastic scope of alchemy
[07:05 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: the AWESOMEscope of alchemy
[07:05 PM] Serafina Ezvalt listens intently
[07:05 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: full metal
    [07:05 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: goody
[07:05 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: equal excange
    [07:05 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: exchange*
[07:05 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: aaaand we'll tackle that now
[07:05 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: By the terms and definitiens we will se tout
[07:05 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: The alchemists in full metal achemist aren't actually alchemists at all.
[07:06 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: What are they then :P
    [07:06 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: cultists?
    [07:06 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: :P
[07:06 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: You see, i will point out an exchange concept, but only in the point of mass....what they are is very specialized wizards.
[07:06 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: That thing they do?
    [07:06 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:06 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: It is perfecty consistant with th econcept of TRANSMUTATION
    [07:06 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: Neat
[07:06 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Which is a magical dicipline
[07:07 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: hey there! Grab a seat we just started
[07:07 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Welcome to class
[07:07 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Case in poin is actually roy mustang.
[07:07 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: So what are we talking more like umm the man who was seeking to turn iorn to gold?
[07:07 PM] Nicolie Luv: Not using it willy nilly so to speak?
[07:07 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: yes...exactly nic.
[07:07 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Roy mustang is the flame alchemist.
[07:07 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But what does he do? He has a pair fo spark glvoes that he uses to start a spark, and then magically increase its size to cause flame. He also controls fire a few times.
[07:08 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: /not/ actual alchemy
[07:08 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: That is pyromancy.
    [07:08 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: Nods
    [07:08 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
    [07:08 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: nods
[07:08 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Do not get me wrong
[07:08 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: I was wondering with stuff like Ed changing the wood and stuff
[07:08 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Transmutation is a part of alchemy
[07:09 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemists just do it differently
[07:09 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: sort of like cause and effect'
[07:09 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Something like that yes...So what is alchemy?
[07:09 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: but with one having to equal the other?
[07:09 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemy is basically magical science to be simple. Its a series of concepts and principles that allow the alchemist to modify the nature of what /is/.
[07:09 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: Changing stuff scientifically or magically?
[07:10 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Sliver star Lilly!
[07:10 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: So like trying to change the molecular compounds of iron into gold?
[07:11 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Well yes, but once we delve into alchemy we'll find that thats more like a parlor trick than anything else.
    [07:11 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
    [07:11 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: Ah
[07:11 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: that's the one off the top of my head :P
[07:11 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: dose sand into glass count?
[07:11 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: you aren't wrong though, its traditionally what real alchemists try to do.
    [07:11 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom listens
[07:11 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Sand into glass, using magic, would be alchemy.
[07:12 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemical Transmutation actually
[07:12 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: and you'd get magical glass.
    [07:12 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: Neat
[07:12 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: An Alchemist uses their magical power and it is MAGICAL, to change things. To manipulate things. Alchemy is a dicipline of manipulation. Being an alchemist can be very rewarding because you sound smarter than the person next to you. And story wise you would be.
[07:13 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So we'll talk about transmutation in a second, because thats what everyone really is most familiar with, but first i'll give yuo a crash course on what an alchemist uses for their magic.
[07:14 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: If you've ever seen a wizards labratory, with the potions bubbling and the word crystals lying around. And possible something in some weird liquid suspended....various apararus just cluttered everywhere...you are probably looking at the best example of an alchemists lab
    [07:14 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:14 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: energy alignment?
[07:15 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: definatly a part of alchemy
    [07:15 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: kk
[07:15 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: If a witch had those things would it still be classed as Alchemy? or just witch craft?
[07:15 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: lots of diciplines use these things.
[07:15 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But there is a diffeence between witchcraft and alchemy
[07:15 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: We are oging to establish that potion making is alchemy.
[07:15 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: you'll see when we get there.
    [07:15 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom nods
[07:15 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: controlling forces of chaos
[07:15 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: You don't need to be an alcehmist to dabble in alchemy
[07:16 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: an /alchemist/ would just be the same as a /witch/ they specialized in that form of magic.
[07:16 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: i tend to deal in chrystals and herbal potions and it seemed similar from what you said before
[07:17 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemists are the magic people who boil things, they draw on stuff, and recite formula's from books in order to achierve their goals. Alchemists draw their alchemical symbols, or spread powder or put things in other things first. Alchemy is about bringing elements together, and then harnessing those forces that are released by their formulas and their symbols to enact a change.
    [07:17 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: Crowley?
[07:17 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: I was just thinking that
[07:18 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: it acually fits into my character quite well
[07:18 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So for example to change this bar of lead into gold. I surround it with a powder. And maybe I draw on it, or around it. I chant a bunch, call upon my own magical force and SHAZAM. I turn the bar of lead into an equal sized bar of gold.
[07:19 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And this is important to note, alchemists (as i used to play one) are often the type of magic user to STORE energy in things. Or create a device to help supply them with extra magical energy. Alchemy is very force intensive. But a great deal of it comes externally from harnessing latent ether in the air via runes and symbols.
[07:20 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Try to think of alchemists as generally liking batteries, and things that start themselves, and you are already on your way...you with me so far?
    [07:20 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: yep
    [07:20 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: okay.
[07:20 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So lets quick talk about transmutation
[07:20 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: def. loving it
[07:21 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Transmutation is simple, make it complicated, draw on it, make runes chant a bunch. use glowy, and POW change whatever it is you ahve into something of equal size.
[07:21 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Thats ALL i will say about equivelent exchange, is that when you transmute remember you are dealling with MASS
[07:21 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So the mass of what yu change, will be relative to the mass of what you have just transmuted.
[07:22 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: got it
[07:22 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Another reason why i decry the full metal alchemist style alchemists as not actual alchemists is because ALCHEMY IS NOT INTENDED TO MOVE QUICKLY
    [07:22 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ritualized?
[07:23 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Most of alchemy is forumulas, and the parts of it that do move fast are probably stored spells. An alchemist is most likely to throw a ball at you that breaks and creates a fire ball. Or their belt buckle shoots a high pressure steam of water. Alchemists need time to prepare.
[07:24 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Their power comes in the fact that once they complete their rituals, their spell effects are deveastating because often they aren't using their own magical supply to power them. they are using mana/ether ripped out of the surrounding area.
[07:24 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But unfortuantly it means that as an alchemist i may be able to quick transmute something, but i'd have to draw on it, and it wouldn't stay in the shape i put it in for long.
[07:24 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: I was just going to ask if the spells degrade iover time due to loss of mana
[07:25 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And thats the other thing: TRANSMUTATION HAS A TIME FRAME. Themore time you have, and the better alchemist you are, the longer it will remain transmuted.
[07:25 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: If you have enough time you can permenanty change the structure of something into something else. Or if the object is not subjectivly very difficult to work with. Sand into glass is easy. But lead into gold is quite another story
[07:26 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Iron to would would also be difficult and probably not last very long.
[07:26 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: A combination of mana drain and the fact the object KNOWS you fucked with it
[07:26 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: /not nods
[07:26 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemists manipulate natural laws.
    [07:26 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: -/not +/me
[07:26 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: nature is an angry bitch. and she hates when you do that kind of crap.
    [07:26 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom nods
    [07:26 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: backlash?
[07:26 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: The object you transmute, the more "vulgar" the transmutation, the less time it will last.
    [07:27 PM] Serafina Ezvalt grins
[07:27 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: yes effectivly its a type of backlash, because the change back isn't slow
[07:27 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: its quite rapid
[07:27 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: your wooden staff will literally SNAP back to iron
    [07:27 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ugh
    [07:27 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: yikes
[07:28 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Transmute the enemies castle to water, and pending you had the time and effort for such a MASSIVE and GROSS change to its structure
[07:28 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: nice on a hike up that mountain trail
[07:28 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: it would at one point become iron again.
[07:28 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: In fact there is a very odd chance it will try to go back to its original SHAPE as well
[07:28 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: If you are caught in it?
[07:28 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: more tha nlikely you die
    [07:29 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:29 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: unless magically manipulated 2 objects can never share the same space
[07:29 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: well such is life
[07:29 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Magic is dangerous
[07:29 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So we clear on the transmutation part?
[07:29 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: yup yup
    [07:29 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom nods
[07:29 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Often alchemists will transmute for their works. But often on small more controled basis.
[07:29 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Now then...the alchemical world.
[07:30 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: This is important to understand the mindof an alchemist
[07:30 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Everything you know in this world, everything that you can hold or touch or place inside your naughty bits for disgusting pleasures.
[07:30 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: All of it has another set of properties.
[07:31 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: These properties you can't usually see, and they don't factor into every day life. But for alchemists, it is THESE properties that they work with. They bring them out via alchemical magic so that these secondary properties become the primary properties.
[07:31 PM] IM: Xstreet SL Central Authority: Nicolie Luv has given you a gift of "::TGIS:: Burlesque Princess Purple" from XstreetSL.com! Message from buyer: Mrs. January
[07:31 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Okay so what does that mean? Lets take nightshade.
[07:31 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: That is downright super poisonous
[07:31 PM] Xstreet SL Magic Box v3.0.11 owned by Freya Olivieri gave you '::TGIS:: Burlesque Princess Purple' ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/New%20Life/136/67/23 ).
[07:31 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: if you use it for ANYTHING your ass is going to die
[07:32 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But lets give it some secondary properties
[07:32 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Sedative properties
[07:33 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: What an alchemist does is manipulate the properties of the nightshade
[07:33 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: so now the fact that its poisonous is /not/ its defining trait
[07:33 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: it has instead had its secondary aclehmical properties overtake it. So now it is a SEDATIVE and will act as such.
[07:33 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: are you ready for me to blow your minds?
[07:34 PM] Carys Blackheart: go for it
    [07:34 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom nods
[07:34 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: DO THAT WITH EVERYTHING.
[07:34 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So when a normal person takes a drink of dragon blood, they probably just get sick
[07:34 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: or horny, depending.
[07:34 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Now lets look at it alchemically
[07:34 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Activate its secondary properties ad yu are sittingon a TREASURE trove of powerful healing agent.
[07:35 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Now do this with everyting, every cure you've heard of, it works.
[07:35 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But only because an alchemist knew what they were doing in activating these secondary rpoeprties.
[07:35 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: poisions become healing devices, harmless items become lethal ingredients in an every growing list of fantastic components for a potion
[07:35 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: This has the potential to be quite overpowering if not a disciplined player.
[07:36 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: how do you activate the secondary properties ?
[07:36 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Why can you make anti-venom from venom? Because as alcehmists we accept that all poisons when alchemically activated counteract themselves.
[07:36 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: There are a variety of ways to activate secondary properties. but the quick answer is, thats why alchemists have a lab.
[07:36 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: They boil the object, the chant over it, they infuse it ever so slowly with magic becasue they know HOW to coax these properties out.
    [07:37 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom nods
[07:37 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And yes, alchemy liek any other magic can become over powered.
[07:37 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: but thats the asshoel dick bag players fault, not alchemy.
[07:38 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Though i would argue that alchemy is one of the stronger magical diciplines.
[07:38 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: Of course
    [07:38 PM] Carys laughs
[07:38 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: and I agree on all coutns
[07:38 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: This is how potions are made.
    [07:38 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: counts
[07:38 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: An alchemist will activate the secondary properties and mix the compoents together for the desired effect.
[07:39 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And that is why an alchemists stock of componets reads like a horror show. But remember, they aren't using the same componets you would be if you just grabbed them and threw them in a pot
[07:39 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: To an alchemist werewolf hair and grave dust, combined with wolfsbane can make a powerful werewolf killing salve that can coat weapons.
    [07:40 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: hehe
[07:40 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: \tzimisce oh how i miss you
[07:40 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: The werewolf hair is used as a base, the grave dust when treated becomes a spiritual bane, and the wolfsbane when treated becomes a strong poison to lycanthropes.
[07:40 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: \ooo i read slave not salve >.<
[07:41 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: When making potions also don't forget, don't limit yourself to just herbs
[07:41 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: I actually use ground crystals in mine
[07:41 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: I ment it when i said ANYTHING, if you can bullshit alchemical properties for someone's doorknob based on age and use, go for it
[07:42 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: see that is what i am talking about
[07:42 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: What I will tell you is like bullshit medicine it is fun to look up old wives tales surrounding various plants and materials.
[07:42 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: a lot of old wives tales when viewed through this lecture's lens are actually alchemical formulas.
[07:43 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And i do mean FORMULAS.
    [07:43 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:43 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Thats the drawback to alchemy, its hard. And its lengthy. And thats why you carry around exploding crystals.
[07:43 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Or silver rods that when thrown summon creatures.
[07:43 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: hich means you rp doing your thing nd carry bags of what you think you will possibly need
[07:44 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: THAT IS ALL ALCHEMY. Alcehmy can be used to access the effects of other schools of magic
[07:44 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: GOLD STAR SER
[07:44 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: so therefore it really isnt lengthy
[07:44 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Exactly it.
[07:44 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: An alchemist caught by suprise is worthless
    [07:44 PM] Serafina Ezvalt grins
[07:44 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: An alchemist that is prepared is a very difficult enemy. You can't tell what they'll do
[07:44 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemy can be used to mimic necromancy, you can have an alchemical zombie.
[07:45 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: They probably are covered in runes.
[07:45 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: You can animate the inanimate via alchemy.
[07:45 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Agian, energy provided by runes, either built into or carved onto the object.
    [07:45 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: scrying?
[07:45 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemy can be used to make its own summoning circles, primarilly with elementals...and there's the best part
[07:45 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: You can do that via alchemy as well.
    [07:45 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:45 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: YOU CAN ENCHANT THINGS.
[07:46 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: An alchemical enchantment is basically a runic formula.
[07:46 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Here is one out of my old alcehmists play book
[07:46 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: We needed to do a summoning spell on a dead goddess to pull her out of her prison.
[07:46 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: My alchemist pointed out that summoning of /that/ type isn't really something alchemists are good at
[07:47 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: but she did realize that you would need a great deal of magic, more so than any one person could probably provide.
[07:47 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Her answer? Kill a dragon.
[07:47 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Use its bones because Dragon Bones are a poerful tool for drawing in mana.
    [07:47 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: Infusion
    [07:47 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ahhh
[07:47 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: exactly. She created an alchemical throne you sat in
[07:47 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ooo nice
[07:47 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And it draw mana in using alchemical principle and fed it to whoever sat on it
[07:47 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: very nice
    [07:48 PM] Lillyanna Avedon: neat
    [07:48 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: question
    [07:48 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ?
[07:48 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So why? How did it work? I explained it as the Dragon Bones became an mana attractor, while the dragon heart that I had built into it served to help channel the mana. I made them go get me volcanic glass to act as a form of focusing gem.
[07:48 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: oh nm
[07:48 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ill wait till later
[07:49 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: All of this was alchemy.
[07:49 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Okay sera, launch yuor question...GO
[07:49 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: Draw a map which follows the person wherever they go in real time?
[07:50 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: I don't see why not. Alchemically you'd need something of theirs to act as an attractor.
[07:50 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: (from an old magicg game and i forget what I used )
[07:50 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And it would have to be built into the map
[07:50 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: it was their pen
[07:50 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alcehmists often work in devices, as you noticed. Because you can use those devices for greater effect.
[07:50 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: id say by our principles it would work
[07:50 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Just remember
[07:50 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: while alchemy can mimic another shcool of magic
[07:50 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: and letterhead stationaryu..w00t
[07:50 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: i won't be able to suprass it.
[07:51 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So you can make alchemical zombies
[07:51 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But an alchemical lich would be more necromancy than alchemy
[07:51 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: HOWEVER ALCHEMY UNLIKE OTHER SCHOOLS OF MAGIC WILL NOT CONFLICT WITH THE SCHOOL IT IS ASSISTING
[07:51 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Remember that
    [07:51 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: ahh
[07:51 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemy can be used as a powerful support tool because that is in essense what it is doing...becoming a passive magic
[07:51 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: so no butting heads
[07:51 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: An alchemist can put a storm in a bottle.
[07:52 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And then in combat throw the bottle, bang insta storm. Or cage a whilrwind in a crystal for use later. Alchemy can be used to heal, it can be used to harm.
[07:52 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: It can create, and it can make what is created stronger. Alchemy at is basis, remember, deals with manipulation.
    [07:53 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:53 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: well hot damn..plaqy it right and mmmm
[07:53 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: That is the goal of alchemists, to use their magical principles to manipulate the world around them.
[07:53 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: just remember.
[07:53 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: alchemy taktes TIME
    [07:53 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nodss
[07:53 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Alchemy takes preparation
[07:54 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And alchemy, your alchemy, NEEDS CONSISTENCEY
[07:54 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: 'with the joker excpect the unexpected.'
    [07:54 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: :P
[07:54 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: while it is a bullshit science.
[07:54 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: it is still a semi science. There are formulas, and once you establish these, remmeber them. i t becomes how your alchemist operates.
[07:54 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And enriches your character.
[07:55 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: you can also then shout at people "IT DOENS'T WORK LIKE THAT" for crowning moments of funny
    [07:55 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: heheh
[07:55 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Imagine your career alchemist as super grouchy
[07:55 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Because people expect him to preform miracles.
[07:55 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: To him, they aren't miracles, they are entirely logically possible
[07:55 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Its just everyone else who doesn't get it
[07:56 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: So now then, questions?
[07:56 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: I could have a mer alchemist yes?
[07:56 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: hee hee Iike the grouchy aspect
[07:56 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: alchemy is neither inherent, or denied to any race
[07:56 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: kk yay!
[07:56 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: so yes
[07:56 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: I was needing a way to do a certain aspect of her
[07:56 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: the main aspect
[07:56 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Though mer alchemists will probably deal more with things you find in a sea
    [07:57 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:57 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: As an alchemist you are smart to surround yourself with what you work with.
[07:57 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: And remember, just because you are a good potion maker, doesnt' mean you be equally as good an enechanter or transmuter
[07:57 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: Oh god I could not have anymore crap in my inventory to put down
[07:57 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Like other forms of magic it has its own sub diciplines.
    [07:58 PM] Serafina Ezvalt nods
[07:58 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: My alchemist, the Undead Alchemist, who herself was an alchemical undead, was TERRIBLE at transmutation
[07:58 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: just /hated/ it
    [07:58 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: hhehe
[07:58 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: But was a powerful enchanter/potion maker.
[07:58 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: my character is rather bad at it LOL and makes errors
[07:59 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: She built alchemically enchanted weapons, and fought with charged rune stones a lot. Which basically made her a mad firebomber in theory
[07:59 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: but perhaps you just /get/ transmutation
    [07:59 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: hmm
[07:59 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: but are a terrible potion maker...or maybe you are SUPER OLD and so have had time to study all the angles.
[07:59 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: An alchemist like that would be veyr dangerous.
[07:59 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Any other questions?
[07:59 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: I need to find a way still do work the alchemy into the main since it has three aspects
[07:59 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: somethign i didn't hit on you want me to? Clarrification?
[07:59 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: but i finally have something!
    [08:00 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: well
[08:00 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Leigh Huet is in StoryTeller mode.))
[08:00 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Oceantide Mortimer-Brown is given 1000 experience points.))
[08:00 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Carys is given 1000 experience points.))
[08:00 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: Really this lecture probably should have gone an hour and a half, or two hours. There is a lot to the subject. But have i given you a basic grasp on what alchemy is?
[08:00 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Lisen is given 1000 experience points.))
[08:00 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: thank you
[08:01 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Genesis Barthelmess Nacht is given 1000 experience points.))
[08:01 PM] Carys Blackheart: Advanced Alchemy another night?
[08:01 PM] Serafina Ezvalt: Is there a way to take the bad things that have been done and mutate them even thuogh they are not material
[08:01 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: i take it there is a demand for it?
[08:01 PM] Carys Blackheart: It was great thank you
[08:01 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: then yes
[08:01 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: very useful
[08:01 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: I'll do advanced alchemy very soon
[08:01 PM] Oceantide Leifstrom: you should *grin*
[08:01 PM] Genesis Barthelmess: so then i'll chalk this one up to victory and now...the victory dance.
