Class: 2010 September 18 Abilities, Actions, and Outcomes

(1 post)
  1. Leigh Huet | September 18, 2010 - 07:43 PM

[11:04 AM] Leigh Huet: that happens sometimes and I like small classes
    [11:04 AM] Quaid Constantine nods
[11:05 AM] Gisele Galtier: We get more attention :)
[11:05 AM] Crimson Sixpence: :/ imo smaller classes=more people to make mistakes
[11:05 AM] Leigh Huet: ok this class is more about how you would go about developing your characters stats and the outcomes
[11:05 AM] Crimson Sixpence: oh well their loss
    [11:07 AM] Quaid Constantine listens
[11:09 AM] Leigh Huet: lets first talk about you want your character to affect others
[11:10 AM] Leigh Huet: there are many ways one can do this but I have a question for you...Is it possible for your character to ALWAYS affect those around them?
    [11:10 AM] Quaid Constantine: no
[11:10 AM] Leigh Huet: why Quaid?
[11:12 AM] Quaid Constantine: That would be god modding. There has to be a change for failure or a way for your opponent to to oppose you
[11:12 AM] Quaid Constantine: I probably didn't explain it right.
[11:12 AM] Crimson Sixpence: omg guys im so sorry :( RL is pulling me away. got a txt from a friend thats not so good i'll see u guys later tonight
[11:12 AM] Gisele Galtier: And sometimes your rolls fail too.
[11:12 AM] Crimson Sixpence: leigh im so sorry Q.Q
    [11:12 AM] Quaid Constantine nods
[11:13 AM] Quaid Constantine: tc leigh
[11:13 AM] Leigh Huet: actually you explained it very well everyone should have a chance
[11:13 AM] Leigh Huet: ok how about..."my character is immune"
    [11:13 AM] Quaid Constantine: mhmm
[11:13 AM] Quaid Constantine: umm no again.
[11:14 AM] Leigh Huet: ok why again? smiles
[11:14 AM] Quaid Constantine: It's the same thing, but reversed
    [11:14 AM] Quaid Constantine: lol
[11:14 AM] Leigh Huet: and again your right
[11:14 AM] Quaid Constantine: You are taking away the choice from the other
[11:14 AM] Gisele Galtier: I think if someone suggested that about themselves, I might respect it if it made sense for the character? Like a vampire claiming that it couldn't be suffocated.
[11:15 AM] Quaid Constantine drops a stellar core fragment on Leigh, squashing her
[11:15 AM] Quaid Constantine: ok. that was a little much. lol
[11:15 AM] Jitterbug Haggwood: Someone might suggest it if their character would believe it but in reality when the dice are rolled it is not true
[11:16 AM] Leigh Huet: well even vampires can be affected underwater, so in a sence they could be but would just take a lot longer
[11:17 AM] Leigh Huet: personally on that one I think of it as "being uncomfortable"
    [11:17 AM] Quaid Constantine nods
[11:18 AM] Leigh Huet: ok so we know that we can't take choice away from other players on either side. so now what I would like you to do is go to the abilities on your character sheet....does everyone know how to get there?
[11:18 AM] Gisele Galtier nods, "Done."
[11:19 AM] Quaid Constantine: The sheet on the website?
    [11:19 AM] Leigh Huet: yes
[11:19 AM] Leigh Huet: on the left hand side it says abilites select that for me
    [11:19 AM] Forcing Ground Sit
    [11:20 AM] Quaid Constantine: ok
[11:21 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: a class?
[11:21 AM] Leigh Huet: ok the reason I asked you to come to this list is one to let you know one that you have it, this shows you all the abilities your character has learned as you level
[11:21 AM] Leigh Huet: yes Grigori
[11:21 AM] Leigh Huet: come join us
[11:21 AM] Gisele Galtier: Hi Grigori
    [11:21 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: hello
[11:21 AM] Leigh Huet: now I will tell you that everyone does get the same abilities however how they act will depend on several factors
[11:22 AM] Leigh Huet: one is your race, how much you use it, and who you are using it against
[11:22 AM] Leigh Huet: some of the help some harm
[11:23 AM] Leigh Huet: now here is the thing about these, because we use them mostly when we RP all of you can find a way to use them with your character but it also depends on your imagination
[11:23 AM] Leigh Huet: for instance
    [11:23 AM] Leigh Huet: healthem
[11:23 AM] Leigh Huet: does it have to be magical healing?
[11:24 AM] Gisele Galtier: No, it could be scientific for example.
[11:24 AM] Leigh Huet: for instance Gisele?
[11:24 AM] Gisele Galtier: I might suture a wound for a client.
[11:24 AM] Quaid Constantine: That's something I was hoping for. My character uses Science and technology, not magic
[11:25 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: how would you work around that with an ability like phase?
[11:26 AM] Leigh Huet: phase is a bit different in that I have seen this happen you can perform it but if a human tries it they may actually go backwards
[11:26 AM] Leigh Huet: or if they are a witch/warlock they could try it but may not be successful
[11:26 AM] Quaid Constantine: What does Phase do? I don't have that ability
[11:26 AM] Leigh Huet: move through objects or even people
[11:26 AM] Gisele Galtier: It lets you walk through walls....usually.
    [11:26 AM] Quaid Constantine: ah
[11:27 AM] Leigh Huet: for you Quaid you can look at each of those abilities and determine how you could use them scientifically
[11:27 AM] Leigh Huet: say poisonthem
[11:27 AM] Leigh Huet: how could you use that?
[11:28 AM] Lilith raises her hand.
[11:28 AM] Quaid Constantine: For poisonthem, I'd use it with a tranq gun, or something else. Maybe a device that emits a gas
    [11:28 AM] Leigh Huet: gisele?
[11:29 AM] Gisele Galtier: I was going to say something similar. That it could be gas or pesticide or...with a different concept a curse.
    [11:29 AM] Quaid Constantine: mhmm
[11:29 AM] Leigh Huet: correct...ok blindthem
[11:30 AM] Leigh Huet: what is a way you could use that?
[11:30 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: dirt in eye?
[11:31 AM] Quaid Constantine: If in melee, then just throwing dirt in their face
[11:31 AM] Gisele Galtier: "You could use it like poison--a gas, a spray, sand.
[11:31 AM] Quaid Constantine: or even just pulling their hat over their head lol
[11:32 AM] Leigh Huet: nice for all of you so in essence no matter what your character is you could use every ability that is listed there, and what I like is the flexability of it for a way each of us can RP how we use it
[11:32 AM] Lilith grins. "That's beautiful."
[11:32 AM] Leigh Huet: I like that one quaid
[11:32 AM] Quaid Constantine smiles"thank you"
[11:33 AM] Leigh Huet: the only thing that matters with these is the outcomes with the abilities your outcomes would say either they are affected or they resisted
[11:34 AM] Leigh Huet: for example if I RPd using shadows to blind Saern
    [11:34 AM] Jitterbug Haggwood: *cries*
[11:34 AM] Lady Leigh performs Eye Stab on Saerrn.
[11:34 AM] Saerrn resists the attempt.
[11:34 AM] Leigh Huet: as it says she resisted so she would RP that outcome in her reaction
    [11:35 AM] Quaid Constantine nods
[11:36 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: how does one resist? is it automatic?
[11:36 AM] Leigh Huet: actually it depends on if they have their protections on
[11:36 AM] Leigh Huet: and the more curses and damaging abilities are used it does wear down
[11:37 AM] Leigh Huet: or for that matter you can break through them and remove those
[11:37 AM] Leigh Huet: for every action you do in a RP fight you can only use one
[11:37 AM] Saerrn covers her armor, shield and anticurse, "No touching those lady."
[11:38 AM] Leigh Huet: break a protection, action against them, or heal
    [11:38 AM] Leigh Huet: laughs
    [11:38 AM] Jitterbug Haggwood: :)
[11:38 AM] Leigh Huet: ok lets talk about the actions a moment
[11:38 AM] Leigh Huet: click on your hud
[11:38 AM] Quaid Constantine: So, no curse, poison and shooting in the same action/turn
[11:39 AM] Leigh Huet: correct Quaid
    [11:39 AM] Quaid Constantine nods
[11:39 AM] Leigh Huet: select action
[11:39 AM] Leigh Huet: I will tell you that everything in your hud does have an internal diceroll a chance of failure
[11:40 AM] Leigh Huet: tri is working on this one so that you actually see something for the others
[11:40 AM] Gisele Galtier: What do you mean?
[11:40 AM] Leigh Huet: but in these cases for the actions you will get a message on your screen
[11:40 AM] Leigh Huet: lets say I wanted to slap Saern
[11:41 AM] Leigh Huet: and I tried but I got a message that said I am not close enough
[11:41 AM] Leigh Huet: so did my action fail?
[11:41 AM] Quaid Constantine: poor Saern is getting singled out today. lol
    [11:41 AM] Jitterbug Haggwood: lol
[11:41 AM] Gisele Galtier: It seems you werent close enough to attempt at all.
[11:41 AM] Jitterbug Haggwood: should the whipping girl get front and center?
[11:41 AM] Leigh Huet: true but did I fail?
[11:42 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: i want some special abilities from tri
[11:42 AM] Gisele Galtier: I'd say no. Just because when I try to attack from far away, the monsters do not act as if I'd been aggressive.
[11:42 AM] Leigh Huet: actually you did
[11:42 AM] Quaid Constantine: not really. you didn't have the chance to succeed or fail. Because you weren't close enough
[11:43 AM] Leigh Huet: you typed your action that you attempted to slap but then were told you were not close enough that means you failed your action and would need to let the other player know
[11:43 AM] Leigh Huet: tri is adding it that everyone would see it.
    [11:43 AM] Quaid Constantine nods
    [11:44 AM] Lilith nods.
[11:44 AM] Leigh Huet: but for now please be honest with other players and let them know that you failed your attempt so they can act appropriately
    [11:44 AM] Quaid Constantine nods
[11:45 AM] Leigh Huet: and Grigori no one gets special abilities listed for their character, if there is one that is not listed in the physical abilities there is another level that you can use, that is in the PvTarget which is where I am going now
    [11:46 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: aww
[11:46 AM] Leigh Huet: on your hud you will see what looks like a crystal it is in actuallity a RP die
[11:46 AM] Quaid Constantine: I'm sorry, but RL is calling. I'll have to take this over
[11:46 AM] Gisele Galtier: Have a great day Quaid.
[11:46 AM] Leigh Huet: you are always welcome to go to the support page and read up on these Quaid
[11:46 AM] Quaid Constantine: you too. ty
[11:47 AM] Leigh Huet: once you click on the die you see a drop down menu they are all the dice roll options
[11:47 AM] Leigh Huet: please chose PvTarget
[11:48 AM] Leigh Huet: this is where you have to determin what is it that you are wanting to do Harm, assist, or discover
[11:48 AM] Leigh Huet: if in the end your intent is to harm
[11:48 AM] Leigh Huet: no matter how you RP your intent is to harm another this is what you use
[11:49 AM] Leigh Huet: if your attent is to help them in some way then assist
[11:49 AM] Leigh Huet: if it is to learn about something, a mind control, then use discovery
[11:49 AM] Leigh Huet: it is all about how you RP
[11:50 AM] Leigh Huet: so say I want to use my voice to calm saern then I would use the assist
[11:50 AM] Leigh Huet: but if I wanted to make her lose control then harm
[11:50 AM] Leigh Huet: what are some other ways you can use these?
[11:51 AM] GRIGORI Yardley: haze then harm?
[11:51 AM] Leigh Huet: you cannot use an ability and a dice roll
[11:51 AM] Leigh Huet: it is always one or the other
[11:51 AM] Leigh Huet: for both are in actuality dice rolls
[11:52 AM] Gisele Galtier: You can use discovery to examine things or people. Or maybe harm for things verbal trickery to deceive.
[11:53 AM] Leigh Huet: correct, especailly on the verbal trickery in the end it is a harm though it is not a physical one
[11:53 AM] Leigh Huet: it is all about how you RP it
[11:53 AM] Leigh Huet: ok lets talk about the outcomes
[11:54 AM] Leigh Huet: there are actually 5 of them
[11:54 AM] Leigh Huet: critical fail, fail, bare success, success, stellar success
[11:55 AM] Leigh Huet: the bare success you rarely see because it is that exact number that you needed to make your attempt successful
[11:55 AM] Leigh Huet: so if I RPd using shadows to trip Lilith in hopes of makeing her fall and got a bare success what would be a good reaction for that
[11:58 AM] Oneiros lilith stumbles barely able to catch herself
[11:58 AM] Lilith seems to catch her foot on something in the darkness, going down on one knee.
[11:58 AM] Leigh Huet: both of those excelt
[11:58 AM] Leigh Huet: because I just barly tripped her more like a stumble
[11:58 AM] Leigh Huet: ok what if I got a success same scenario
[11:59 AM] Lilith trips, landing solidly as she hits the ground.
[12:00 PM] Leigh Huet: yep because I got exactly what I set out to do
[12:00 PM] Leigh Huet: ok fail same scenario
[12:01 PM] Gisele Galtier: That's an interesting question. I obviously don't stumble, but when is the target aware of the attempt?
[12:02 PM] Leigh Huet: you would no because one the challenge rule already was met and we are in an altercation or I might be wanting to do a practical joke and still would have to meet the challenge rule so basically you the player would know something is gonna happen
    [12:02 PM] Leigh Huet: no=Know
[12:03 PM] Leigh Huet: but ya basically nothing would happen I faild the shadows were not strong enough
[12:04 PM] Leigh Huet: ok now the last two are interesting in their outcomes
[12:04 PM] Leigh Huet: critical fails
[12:04 PM] Leigh Huet: I have become the biggest clutz on the face of the planet
[12:04 PM] Leigh Huet: no control at all with my magic
[12:04 PM] Leigh Huet: would my critical fail affect both of us?
[12:05 PM] Gisele Galtier: Maybe you'd trip while trying to trip me? The criticals seem so fun to write.
[12:06 PM] Gisele Galtier: But if you're failing, I don't think I'd fall.
[12:06 PM] Leigh Huet: yes excatly and when I story tell I have both players roll a d4
[12:06 PM] Leigh Huet: actually you could
    [12:06 PM] Gisele Galtier: Oh!
[12:06 PM] Leigh Huet: think about momentem
[12:06 PM] Leigh Huet: I trip on my skirt and your moving and fall in front of you we now have a pile of two bodies
[12:07 PM] Leigh Huet: the shadows tripped me instead and in the process of my falling I fall into you
[12:08 PM] Gisele Galtier: Does the d4 determine who else is affected? Like onlookers being splashed or hit by friendly fire?
[12:08 PM] Leigh Huet: if they are close enough YES definately
[12:08 PM] Leigh Huet: and I would have them roll d4's as well
[12:09 PM] Leigh Huet: the d4 is in quarters
    [12:09 PM] Leigh Huet: 1 being 25% and 4 being 100%
[12:09 PM] Leigh Huet: the percentage of how much it affected you
[12:09 PM] Leigh Huet: so if I rolled a 2 and you rolled a three
[12:10 PM] Leigh Huet: down I went taking you with me twisting my ankle and you breaking your nose but a lot also depends on what you were doing before that would determine what was affected..like you could put your arm out and landed on it
[12:10 PM] Leigh Huet: this is why I let the d4's speek for me as a storyteller
[12:11 PM] Leigh Huet: how about a stellar success? same scenario
[12:11 PM] Gisele Galtier: Can I ask a question about the critical fail?
    [12:11 PM] Leigh Huet: sure
[12:13 PM] Gisele Galtier: Are there times when it -doesn't- affect the other players? ie. your gun blows up in your hand or you cut yourself getting your blade from the sheath? And how do you know? Can you get 0 percent with the 4 die? (I'm new to the system)
[12:13 PM] Leigh Huet: you can't get a zero no matter what something is going to happen
[12:14 PM] Leigh Huet: think about RL for a moment your a cluts your pulling out a knife and it cuts you and goes flying can another get hurt?
[12:15 PM] Gisele Galtier: Definitely. Sometimes people aren't hurt--but maybe that would be a pain failure?
[12:15 PM] Gisele Galtier: a -plain- failure.
[12:15 PM] Leigh Huet: as I said a lot depends on what the attempt is
[12:16 PM] Leigh Huet: critical fail on sewing someone up
[12:16 PM] Jitterbug Haggwood: as well as what the overall scene is
[12:16 PM] Gisele Galtier nods, "Got it. I understand."
[12:17 PM] Leigh Huet: same thing could happen with stellar's for it is just the opposite
[12:17 PM] Leigh Huet: I did a steller to trip you and your forward motion kept you going and bowled me over
[12:18 PM] Leigh Huet: that is what makes them interesting and fun to RP
[12:19 PM] Leigh Huet: they are a very small percentage in the rolls and usually difficult to get and also the most difficult to understand, had a player tell me he didn't really understand about the stellars till it happened to him in RL
    [12:19 PM] Jitterbug Haggwood: *snickers*
    [12:20 PM] Gisele Galtier laughs.
[12:21 PM] Leigh Huet: martial arts fighting he hit the person in the chest the physical momentem he had going did a stellar on the guy he goes down on the mat alright but his physical momentem kept going and his feet went in the air making contact...in a very tender area....so ya he really understood stellar then
[12:22 PM] Leigh Huet: it is a matter of just thinking about physics and what can happen not only in a fight but say I want to help one to calm down I get a critical fail
[12:22 PM] GRIGORI Yardley: ladies I must depart in a bit for a meeting
[12:22 PM] Leigh Huet: I now have a spliting headache and so do they
[12:23 PM] Gisele Galtier: Or they get so angry they attack you.
[12:23 PM] Leigh Huet: stellar they pass out and so do I because we are both so calm
    [12:23 PM] Jitterbug Haggwood: *chuckles*
[12:23 PM] Leigh Huet: yea exactly
[12:23 PM] Gisele Galtier: Take care, Grigori. Have a good meeting.
[12:23 PM] GRIGORI Yardley: thank you
[12:24 PM] Leigh Huet: the main thing with all your reactions is plausability and physics..the things that CAN happen
[12:24 PM] Gisele Galtier nods, "I can understand that."
[12:24 PM] Leigh Huet: any questions?
[12:25 PM] Gisele Galtier shakes her head. "No, this has been great!"
[12:25 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Leigh Huet is in StoryTeller mode.))
[12:25 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Lilith is given 1000 experience points.))
[12:25 PM] Lady Leigh: ((Saerrn is given 1000 experience points.))
[12:25 PM] Gisele Galtier: "This sim is my first time using a meter---I really appreciate the classes."
[12:26 PM] Leigh Huet: I plan on doing more classes in regards to outcomes and ways to use it in your daily RP
[12:26 PM] Leigh Huet: for the more you use them the more you will develop your character
[12:26 PM] Leigh Huet: when you fail you gain wisdom from it
[12:27 PM] Gisele Galtier: Is there a part of the website that explains what things like ferocity are in game terms?
    [12:27 PM] Leigh Huet: adrenaline
[12:27 PM] Leigh Huet: prowess how good you are with a weapon
[12:28 PM] Gisele Galtier: Is ferocity related to endurance?
[12:28 PM] Leigh Huet: yes a bit
[12:28 PM] Jitterbug Haggwood: they all kinda interact to a certain degree, though a lot depends on your character as well
[12:28 PM] Leigh Huet: endurance is how long you can keep up a task say for instance fly
[12:29 PM] Leigh Huet: there really is no way to work one specific stat
[12:29 PM] Leigh Huet: for as you do things several combined is affected
[12:29 PM] Gisele Galtier: That makes sense.
[12:30 PM] Jitterbug Haggwood: the importnt thing is to get out there, move around and rp
[12:30 PM] Gisele Galtier: Those stats went down for me when I leveled, but I'm guessing that that is because their number seems less significant compared to the level.
[12:30 PM] Leigh Huet: like if you fight a lot it would increase your dexterity, prowess, ferocity, endurance, strength. gain wisdom for aim.
[12:31 PM] Gisele Galtier: Does it take a long while to see the changes?
[12:32 PM] Leigh Huet: actually you see them when you level
[12:32 PM] Leigh Huet: but what may look like your going down you are not because the measuring bucket for the percentages is actualy bigger for each levle
[12:33 PM] Jitterbug Haggwood: some of that will be related to your base race as well as your class
[12:33 PM] Gisele Galtier: Is the appearance of the stat going down something that will change in later updates of LARPS?
[12:34 PM] Leigh Huet: yes tri said he will use the same measuring bucket so you will actually see the changes
[12:35 PM] Gisele Galtier: It'll be exciting to see what he does with it. It seems very innovative.
[12:35 PM] Leigh Huet: the whole thing is for it is a learning system
