[01:07 PM] Leigh Huet: ok this class is about the dice rolls and the challenge rule the first question I have for you is "What is the challenge rule?"

Using the darkness to stalk closer and closer. The hunger was alight in her eyes. And her maw parted as an icy tongue ran over serrated fangs. Closer, still. Salivating at the thought of the meal to come.

[01:43 PM] Usagi skidded to a stop.. hearing the sound of claws on cobblestone.. perking lil bunneh ears. . . . "You better not be a Wolfie!" She calls out into the shadow...
[01:46 PM] Emmily began to grin. Scaled lips pulling back to reveal her razor sharp fangs. All but gleaming like the teeth of the cheshire cat from within the shadows. A low and rumbling growl rising from deep in her throat. She came. The energy within her exploded, claws scraping back as she shot forward. Trailing sparks along the stones, with the evil scraping echoing off the surrounding brick buildings. From the darkness like ..well a demon from hell...the dragon emerged. Jowls wide and aiming right for the little bunny as she bore down on Usagi.

[01:53 PM] Lamia Starspear: The one who is being attacked. Unless it's a stellar or critical?
[01:53 PM] Leigh Huet: ding ding ding...correct Usagi
[01:54 PM] Leigh Huet: even in the stellar and criticals and why we use the d4 for a qualifier
[01:54 PM] Usagi Vyper: if the attack fails, the attacker reacts, and the defender takes an action
[01:54 PM] Leigh Huet: 1 being not so bad 4 being major
[01:54 PM] Lamia Starspear: See different people say different things.
[01:55 PM] Leigh Huet: now if the attack fails the defender still does the reaction
[01:55 PM] Leigh Huet: the reason for this is that it gives them the choice of how their character resisted
[01:55 PM] Lamia Starspear: I was told if there is not an ST to narrate, that stellar and critical rolls are to be responded to by the one who rolled them before the other reacts.

[01:55 PM] Usagi Vyper: but is the defender limited to JUSt reaction to the attack?

[01:57 PM] Leigh Huet: now lets say I critally failed
[01:57 PM] Leigh Huet: I roll a 3
[01:58 PM] Leigh Huet: criticals without an ST present I see no problems with talking it out in IM
[01:58 PM] Lamia Starspear: That is why I was told you get to state HOW you critically fail...such as maybe you trip and fall on your own knife, or cut your hand.
[01:58 PM] Leigh Huet: but it is still YOUR reaction based on YOUR character for I would not want to speak for another character
[01:58 PM] Lamia Starspear: It would have to be done before the other's reaction...

[02:02 PM] Leigh Huet: it could be anything from just a graze on my knuckles to breaking my hand in the process

[02:05 PM] Leigh Huet: we have 5 outcomes
[02:05 PM] Leigh Huet: critical fail, fail, bare success, success, and stellar success
[02:05 PM] Leigh Huet: the outcome you see has internal dice rolls
[02:05 PM] Aydin Resident: nono, like when casting magic, the caster rolls the dice several times based on his stats
[02:05 PM] Leigh Huet: your attack roll their resistance roll
[02:05 PM] Usagi Vyper: i have to say, I REALLY like the robustness of this system / meter.

[02:06 PM] Aydin Resident: how many time he succeeds gives the duration of the effect
[02:06 PM] Leigh Huet: all rolls are based on your stats
[02:06 PM] Usagi Vyper: you made the roll, but now you is neekid!
[02:06 PM] Leigh Huet: the outcome tells you if you were successful or not
[02:06 PM] Aydin Resident: oh.. let me give an example
[02:07 PM] Aydin Resident: Ok, i'm casting a magic spell against you. I roll say 6 times and 4 times I get a sucess
[02:07 PM] Leigh Huet: bare success is you did the exact number you needed based on their resistance
[02:07 PM] Leigh Huet: no
[02:07 PM] Leigh Huet: we do not roll like in table top
[02:07 PM] Aydin Resident: to break the spell YOu or someone else need to roll 5 or more sucesses in a counter spell
[02:07 PM] Aydin Resident: oh alright.
[02:08 PM] Leigh Huet: if I do a magic roll and your intent is to harm then you would use the PvsTarget Harm roll
[02:09 PM] Leigh Huet: so say I want to use the shadows to harm another player
[02:09 PM] Leigh Huet: that is magic for Leigh
[02:09 PM] Leigh Huet: I would then have the player targeted
[02:09 PM] Leigh Huet: chose the PvTarget and harm
[02:09 PM] Leigh Huet: if I am successful your character was harmed
[02:10 PM] Leigh Huet: and the outcome will indicate that
[02:10 PM] Leigh Huet: you don't see the actual roll like you would in table top
[02:10 PM] Leigh Huet: understand?

[02:14 PM] Leigh Huet: actually Aydin that is the way it used to be..magic rolls was 3d10's and resistance was d100 then we had to look up the stats and resistance numbers then narrate the outcome and then you would RP it...tri made it automatic.
[02:14 PM] Usagi blinks.... "You don wanna do that, ifn you do, tthere will be TWO bunnehs when you raise the hat... That's how it allways works."
[02:15 PM] Lamia Starspear: And if I keep doing it? A whole lotta bunnies!? Enough to fill mah freezer?
[02:15 PM] Leigh Huet: it took a long time for fights and the flow was not there like it is now it is much easier to use the dice in RP all the time now for when ever there is a factor of chance involved

[02:16 PM] Leigh Huet: one of the things I love about this RP tool that it does add the level of chance and just because you say it doesn't make it so.
[02:16 PM] Nicolie Luv: hence the reason everything is always an attempt
[02:16 PM] Leigh Huet: just remember that if you are wanting to affect another player that after the challenge rule is used then IM them and ask if they would like an ST present
[02:17 PM] Leigh Huet: if all parties agree and feel they can follow the dice and enjoy their game then an ST is not required but I suggest only going that rought if you are really familiar with the dice
[02:18 PM] Leigh Huet: if you wish to affect the environment then then you will need a ST

[02:20 PM] Leigh Huet: for instance the situation you were in when it comes to a bite
[02:21 PM] Leigh Huet: it is the roll that determines if it happened to begin with
[02:21 PM] Leigh Huet: or the ability like /9bitethem
[02:21 PM] Aydin Resident: he'd need to roll to see if his first touch would have woken me up
