My dearest Saerrn,
The shadows gather around you while you sleep, allowing me to see nothing but the cherubic features of your five year old face, nights falling around us as I wonder if and when you will ever know the places that your special life will take you. Will you follow the wisps that speak to you…those I see you chase when you don’t know that I am watching, those wisps that have a purpose you could not possibly know?
The day will come that you will leave this place that I struggle to help you accept as a home even though it is apparent to all that you do not ultimately belong here. Sadly, you and I know, despite your tender young age, that your mother created a life in you that has no place in Blaneslea…but a life nonetheless that has a purpose. My sweet child, Saerrn…for you truly are a sweet child even though you fight me every day of your life…I wish that I could call you my own but it would be for naught for me to do so. I raise you as my own because I love you, my child, and I know that you have a path set before you that you must follow…a path important to the very wellbeing of this world…your world as it is mine. I feel this…and feel it in you every morning with the rising of the sun. The rift grows strong in you. The rift grows strong in this world. You, Saerrn, will lead the others through this rift as only you can understand it. Your nature will fight you even as it becomes your greatest ally. I will be your staunchest ally.
Saerrn…if you are reading this, it can only be because you have found these deep in the folds of whatever pack you left Blaneslea with…this book that only contains my letter to you. Your destiny determined to unfold in the empty pages that will follow. My child, your destiny requires that you walk the rift between Chaos and Order, Good and Evil, those who will and those who won’t. Understand, learn, take the lessons I will surely have taught you Saerrn because while I can tell you what it is…only you can take the lessons of what threatens to undo this world and deliver it to the world in a means it will understand. A demon spawn…what will they think when they see you deliver this message? A father’s smile upon you amidst fear, misunderstanding, bloodshed…perhaps but you can and must make them understand…there is a lesson to be taught, learned and embraced. Neither Chaos nor Order can overtake the other but the struggle rises and stands in the faces of those who will see it and takes the legs out from beneath those who refuse it. Balance, my child…make sure always that your Balance between your Chaos and Order is always there…For you are the child of both. A Grey that will bring this world to its knees and speak of its very survival.

Book I: Prologue-The Rift of Chaos and Order
AND the day came that darkness spread across the heavens. Storms raged, clouds parted and all that was and was not spoke and sundered two score to the rolling mass of land that would rise from nothingness and become known as Tiernault. A legion of two score that would fall nearly lifeless, the days marking their passage as slowly they formed, bodies twisting and churning as they pulled from the land and the skies around them, feeding themselves with what was and was not. That which could be found all around them in abundance, Chaos and Order that would encourage their gluttony, giving solid form to the reasons they found themselves pushed from the heavens above.
AND one by one they rose. One by one they rose and two by one score they split and separated themselves, those of the black hair crouching low to the land, their palms spread wide as they tasted and sought out the Chaos that rolled below them, the energy that arched its back and sought release. Those of the white hair drew back from the first score, their bare feet barely gracing touch with the land as they tipped their faces back and allowed the free Order of the air to brush over their newly drawn flesh.
AND so it came that the Demons and the Angels would come upon Tiernault, Chaos and Order tossed from the heavens, their very steps forever creating and forming the land their ancestors would inherit their struggle from.

And on the day, the waters rose up along the long far reaching flanks of Tiernault, an equal force of flames marched across the opposing stretches, molten stone marking ground that lifted up along ridgelines. Ridgelines of congregation as Chaos would meet Order and battles for understanding would slowly begin…once again…the balance of existence in the delicate grasp of colliding energies without the sole power to destroy one…but to destroy all…
