Phoenix Firestorm debate video
(6 posts)-
There was a debate recently about the Phoenix Viewer. Here is the video on the Q&A that was made.
Enjoy the frantic efforts of people holding on to thin tethers of outdated technology.

They needed two and a half hours to explain what's going on with Pheonix viewer and defend it? Really? Really?
-
One hour was wasted repeating the same things over and over.

What viewer do you guys feel is the best one?
-
Honestly... I used Kirsten's and got very used to the V2 base. Singularity is the best V1 appearing viewer. http://www.singularityviewer.org/downloads
But honestly I love the newest LL viewer. Things I love about it:
1- THE NEW DOCKABLE/CUSTOMIZEABLE BUTTONS AND TOOLBARS! love love love it and I dont think any third party viewer has this feature
2- Favorite LMs toolbar
3- V2 outfits / inventory linksI tried Firestorm... I liked things about it, but it slowed me waaaaay down. I'm going to try Dolphin viewer and a couple others soon.

I used to use Singularity, and LOVED it... didn't have the V3 features, but its stability, ease of access, lack of lag, and of course, simple familiarity more than made up for it. However due to the viewer no longer being supported for Macs, I'm forced to lesser viewers.
I use two -
V3 -
Pros : customizable tool bars and interface, multiple clothing layers, the Outfits* feature, favorite LMs toolbar, SURL bar
Cons : Local chat imput bar stuck at the bottom of the viewer, Local chat and IMs put into different boxes/areas- turning the entire viewer into a million little text boxes, stuck with horizontal chat tabs - which causes me to miss incoming IMs, laggy no matter what the graphics setting, crashes at the drop of a hat, profiles must be viewed through the slow as molasses in-world browser, in a counter-intuitive profile layout.Firestorm -
Pros : customizable tool bars and interface, the Outfits* feature, easy access to graphics fine tuning that allows for things to look good while cutting down on lag (yes it does take some changing up from the default settings), Local and IMs are in a lovely little box, but the notifications are still discreet (while this takes some getting used to and watching for, I do like the fact that there's less real estate being taken up on the screen by popups), I have my vertical tabs option, favorite LMs toolbar, SURL bar AND the option to make them go away
Cons : textures occasionally get 'stuck' loading both on the avatar and inworld, and no amount of rebaking helps- this is a problem I've had with this family of viewers since Emerald, crashes are less frequent than v3 - BUT they come in clusters, where as in SL's v3 viewer, the crashes come like clockwork.*the Outfits feature lets you put on an outfit, and then 'save' it, which creates links to the Inventory items. This means being able to change your character's entire avatar without your meter dettatching and reattaching. Very nice.
