Reccomended base list of skills for kitsune
(3 posts)-
For anyone interested in playing a kitsune but are unsure of what skills to focus on, here are some recommendations.
Magic Based
- Illusion
- Most of kitsune lore revolves around the illusions they use and how powerful they are. This really is a "must have"
- Divination
- Older/wiser kitsune are said to have the gift of "sight" The divination skill falls in nicely for this. This is a great second choice.
- Abjuration/Evocation
- Abjuration is ideal for the "protector" Myobu kitsune, while Evocation is a great choice for others of a more mischievous outlook.
- Enchantment
- kitsune are said to be capable of possessing young women. With such a limited scope in folklore, enchantment barely makes the list of suggestions.
Non-Magic Skills
- Deception
- Kitsune are legendarily adept at twisting words, and playing mind games. The benevolent seek to teach lessons with their pranks. The mischievous seek a little fun, and the malevolent seek to cause harm.
- Persuasion
- This is a very close second choice for the kitsune for much of the same reasons as above as well as being able to talk themselves out of trouble should they get caught.
- Stealth
- According to folklore, a kitsune cannot be found unless he/she wants to be found. This skill also falls neatly into mischievous nature of the kitsune.
- Deeper Thinking
- Kitsune, especially the older ones, are said to be highly intelligent and wise in the ways of the world. -
Thanks but everyone starts at "Apprentice" in every skill. It's what you do on your role-play stage that improves the skill.
Kitsune has many various forms and paths so by setting a set number of skills solidifies that species and makes it less flexible. I prefer to give actors a blank canvas and let them paint their own works of art.
There are exceptions when a game realm has no masters or skilled experts, so I would set up an immediate skill set for those people, so they may hold IC classes, skill areas, crafting areas etc. Again, it's up to the game realms to contact me or they set their realms accordingly.
The good news is, you can set your "focus" to a specific skill. So when you dice-roll and get success, your skill is possibly improved.
You can set your focus using "/9use Illusion" or whatever skill you are focusing on.Your skills page shows which skill you are currently concentrating on.

That why this was just a recommendation based on the common themes concerning kitsune lore. Nothing more.
