Study Skills...Helpful for all

Hello all, I am unsure if there is something already going to be implemented like this but I thought it was pretty neat idea if it can be done. I was thinking not all characters want to spend time making a full profession out of each skill but would like some of it just incase they were approached up on the street. Well most people learn from studying their surroundings, or from a book. Seeing as the books are already taking care of I was thinking of an area skill dispense system using the command /9study giving you the ability to look around at your surroundings and observe from the activities near you. Say you are at a graveyard with the walking undead roaming about and you study the area...you could get a few points of Necromancy or Demonology. Say you want to learn about religion, study the church, cultist shrines, stone circles, ect.. and this could be done for nearly any skill with a designated area or multiple areas around the sim. There are a few hassles with this though due to the fact we do not wish people to just sit only and farm skills, so there are a few solutions to this: 1. Having it reset like the horses do every so often. 2.have it monitor if you type anything icly and so long with silence have it reset. or 3. Have the skill rate go at different increments of time depending on your stats of Wisdom and intellect. One who has a higher intellect would earn a skill point quicker than one with a lower stat in that department.

We still wish to have the ability to go at a normal rate for those who wish to take the skill and make it a profession sort for their character but this would be a way for people who just want to have a well-rounded character and all. Plus this would give others that wish to learn magic or healing and arent able to attend classes on a regular basis the ability to learn just not as fast as others. This would also play into a character that would already icly know more than what is given as the new system starts, as Rune stated a while ago that there is no real icly reason for him to rp a beginning magic class when he has been rping magic for so long, this would give him and others like that a way to get the skills without the rp of a class or such that would not fit the character already made.

Hoping this helps, it was just a random thought recently and I thought it would be very impressive if implemented.

You've almost hit the nail on the head with the upcoming Study Areas, such as Hospital, Library etc.

The thought of mine wasn't /9study, but /9learn, but it comes close to yours :P

There will also be Skills Trainers, NPCs that you visit to study from as well as self-study to learn. This is one of the reasons why I implemented Geographics in the system now (that little HUD at the bottom of your screen).

Not only that, but later you'll be able to do "/9use skill Illusion" (for example) to give extra weight to your Magical dice roll to override the system's guess of which skill you are proficient at.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the new features later this month as it falls in line with how you are thinking :)

Kudos and many thanks for that feedback.
