The Joy Ride ...
(4 posts)-
Anjolie waited quietly in the shadows underneath the bridge, just outside the Black Rose Cafe. It was hard for her to keep still, she was bouncing with nervous energy and of course it was always moments like these that she found she needed to pee the most.
And then it was on ...
While she was staring at the cafe, the coach drove right passed her from under the bridge. Goosebumps rippled across her skin as the carriage unexpectedly brushed passed her. In all the time she'd been watching him, he'd never come from that direction and for a moment she considered giving up the mission that but since he hadn't seemed to notice her, she pressed on.
The driver had been coming to see Borris every sixth day of the week, always when the cafe seemed empty. It was like some kind of secret skeletel society meeting and something or other. She used to think it was human nature to want to bond with your own kind but this London made her realize it was the nature of all creatures. Regardless, she didn't care if they were plotting to take over or just having whatever skeletons have ... she had her own reason for being there.
The carriage sat still for about five heartbeats before it rocked slightly at the driver's movements. Another moment later and his skeletal feet hit the floor. Anjolie jumped back further in the shadows as his empty orbital sockets checked each way, a low growl emitted from his mandible and she was sure he knew she was there waiting. But a moment later, he was lurching up the steps to the cafe. The coast was clear!
The air crackled around her and her eyes went wild! Anj's heart pounded so hard she thought it would leap from her chest, she had to go now or not go at all so she raced to the carriage fast - she was flying and nearly missed the carriage handle as she swung herself up into the driver's seat! In an instant she had the reigns in her hands, yelling "YAH! YAH!"
With a loud whinney, the horse took off and the carriage flew down the street toward the Tea Room. Surely she'd wake the whole neighborhood but she didn't care! The pure adrenaline rush combined with the speed of the carriage, the wind whipping her hair around ... it made it all worth it!

Back at the cafe, the skeleton cab driver and Borris came to the door to see what was happening, "Damn that girl! This is the third time this month she's tried to steal my carriage and now she's finally succeeded!"
Borris would reassure him, "Now Now ... it's just a child going for a joy ride! Knowing Anjoie, she'll feel guilty by the time she hits the bank and bring it right back. There's no need to worry."
The skeleton was not happy, "I'm calling a constable. We'll see how guilty she feels once she's behind bars." He turned to make he call.
Borris cupped his metacarpals over the driver's scapula causing him to pause. Borris' voice was firm yet still gentle in his Borrisy kind of way, "It's a joyride. If she's not back before our business ends, I will call the constable myself."
The cab driver huffed and returned to the cafe without another word about it.

The carriage took off at lightening speed - she had no idea the horse could go this fast! Too fast!
She cackled with an exhilarated delight as she tried to manage the reigns, she pulled on them to no avail, "Go left!!!! No no go right!!!!" She yelled at the horse - but the horse had a mind of its own and it turned when it wanted and where it wanted!
As he picked up speed, she began to get just a touch nervous, the wheels bouncing over the cobblestones, the carriage rocking dangerously from side to side threatening to throw her from it, "Please hoorrseeeeey plleasee sllooow downnnn!"
If she wanted a joy ride, surely she was going to get one!
They were rounding Huet Hall now and headed toward the bank! Realizing she had absolutely no control, she braced herself into the seat and gripped the reigns tightly just to keep herself from going flying! She threw her head back and cackled loudly into the cool morning air! Her laughter would echo throughout all of London - no one on the streets but her and the carriage!
It had only been minutes but now the carriage raced and roared faster arond the bank, the buildings were a blur and her stomach leapt into her chest as the horse made a sharp u-turn to bring them back toward the cafe!
She was giddy, her eyes tearing from the cold air whipping her face, "Yah! Yah!" She'd call again as if the horse could go any faster! She'd become disoriented until she saw the blue glow of the Black Rose Cafe and a piece of her inside sank - the ride was over.
The horse stopped short in front of the cafe, it snorted and panted creating quick short puffs of clouds in the cool air, "Oh hush .. you barely broke a sweat," smirked Anj as she slid off the carriage, a bit dizzy from the ride.
She couldn't help but grin to herself. Her cheeks hurting from laughing so hard. Her entire body felt exhilarated! But then she saw them there ... the bone patrol, radial bones crossed over sternums - she imagined the scowls they would have on their faces had they still had their facial muscles and well .. skin.
Borris was the first to speak, "Good Morning Miss Criss ... do you have something you'd like to say?"
Anj rolled her eyes and slumped her shoulders resigning to the fact that she probably should apologize regardless to the fact that the cab drivers nearly ran her over hourly so she stepped up to the both of them apologetically and said, "Yes Borris .. you're right. I should apologize and in earnest ... I do." But then her voice lifted with an uncontrollable exuberance, her unapologetic grin as wide as it could possibly be, "BUT THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!"
Borris, every so gentlemanly, "Miss Criss please .. language."
She did a little dance of happiness in the street ignoring Borris and went over the horse and scratched his ears quickly as a bit of a reward for giving her a ride that was most definitely joyous.
The cab driver glared at her and Borris put a hand on his scapula. "No worries ... I'm sure she's learned her lesson."
She danced down the street away from them and yelled out into the night air, "NEXT TIME WE DO IT NAKED! WOOOOHOOOO!"
The cab driver growled, "learned her lesson, eh?"
Borris simply cleared his throat and nodded.

Incredibly entertaining. You made the "skeletals " pop to life and I felt the wind in my face.
