Think Statements..

since i have been roleplaying..many sims including Legacies have rp classes held by STs or guest speakers.

Most of the regular rpers, or people loyal to the legacies sims must have already attended most, yet i STILL see players rping MEGA, not just small ones, but MEGA narratives and think statements.

our characters cannot READ YOUR MIND.

Im sorry but this drives me crazy. Full immersed means you ought to be telling us 5 out of 6 of your char senses..which has already been said in the classes..which are great. at least one person has said, 'OH MY GOD, i didnt know i was doing anything wrong.'

example of dead posting/think statements-- Jane exits the bar in a frenzy of violent lace and taffeta, her azul orbs rolling in comtempt due to stupid people. No one understand her superior mind, and Jane suspect no one ever would because they are too wrapped up in themselves. She decides its best to just keep her mouth shut, no one is listening anyway.

dead posting means about the same as a think statement..either way above is a statement no one can respond to. No dialogue. not enough body language outside of the fact the character has put her back to the room and THEN rolls her eyes. would anyone think anything of it.

this is also at the root of OOC drama. Did the player state this on purpose to get negative attention? or to insult other players and hide it icly??

to me the correct way to post this chars thoughts would be below

Jane shifts in front of the group. Her violent design rustling as she moves impatiently. She will depart with a muttered, 'I don't think this lot would ever understand anything intelligent. They don't seem capable..' if not stopped.

People post out of rps prematurely also. how do you know your char wont be stopped? leave an opening for reactions to your post out if you have not already IMed those you are rping with to state a rushed or premature exit due to..whatever..RL or another RP or something.

Its true there are all types of rp..like narratives and such. but when you are around groups of chars..they cannot read your mind and it is at times forcing them into a metagame or godmod situation.

i think a lot of anxiety to interact with one another comes from too much narrative and not enough action or dialogue. I want to learn about characters, a lot. i can't if the char posts a string of witty zingers..thats great to me the typist, not my char. he cannot laugh or cry or pose any type of reaction.

from a paraposter like me, quantity is not always quality..especially if the quantity is riddled with thoughts and not action or dialogue. put quotes around it, be bold. Your char has issues icly with another don't /me exits because she hates the woman that killed her dragon. or /me knows what she must do; she must use the force that she was taught long ago as a baby growing up in a manger because her mother was a prostitute from detroit and her father is a half vampire half golem that swore vengeance on her grandmother's aunt's sister's cousin's baby's twin. A run on sentence full of nothing much another char could react too.

I dont want to come off like i know it all, because I don't. And i really don't think a lot of players realize its another way. Sometimes one can feel rushed to post to keep up in a group rp..or may be distracted RL. I used to rp like that, and sometimes its something easy to fall into when trying to be descriptive. ive had the most fun rping in legacies, but the think statements are a little out of hand, i think. (heh, no pun intended)

oh and know that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. every line you drop doesn't have to be one that describes how beautiful your character is. Us guys and girls..and the lot get the hint. you got EYE candy. stating this over and over in the same rp drags the rp on and stalls development. and it is also a godmod. again beauty is in the eye of the beholder..so each char will have distinct tastes and opinions of what beautiful, grotesque or ugly is to them. you cant force a bunch of think statements on another char and expect their next response to include how pretty/handsome/ugly/grotesque your char is.
