Thomas is no longer on Legacies

Thomas Whistler will no longer be on Legacies. It is unacceptable to forced into roll play with people I do not want contact with, or forced into a scripted story line. I did not join role play to be a character in someone else’s story to manipulate and use as they see fit. I will not be writing him out of role plays I am currently involved with. Those who saw fit to write his story for me can write him out.

    Here is the truth:

A character was subjected to some IC propaganda. All role play was not directed OOCly and was correctly performed with IC attempts. As with all propaganda, it is like Chinese Whispers. One person says something which gets slightly changed when that character tells another. I call it "The Desperate Housewives Effect" :P

Now here is this crunch. How does one react OOCly to this kind of IC RP? Well... the best thing to do is to ride with it, as it's all role play, and that's what we are here for. I have my personal choices of what I would do... such as... suing the characters for slander, hiring an assassin hit on some... hiring a gypsy to hex them... the options are endless because I treat it as a storyline that could development. If I want to take this all OOCly, as in Thomas' case, then this is called Blurring. Alas, some people cannot handle Dark RP and we certainly, I for one, wish the actor the very best in searching a comfortable place to RP.

  3. Cereno Resident | August 14, 2011 - 06:27 PM

There is no court of any sort and no way to prove my case if I can’t prove they lied, you can't kill of a player, and if hexed the character can simply re-write the role play to be immune to it. Tis not dark role play I am opposed to, it leaders of the SIM arbitrarily applying rules to control the role play and still claim it’s open.

  4. TriJin | August 14, 2011 - 06:41 PM

Okay Cereno... you know that is completely untrue. You are obviously just writing that to incite OOC drama.

    1. There is an IC court for things. It's the huge building that you can't miss and we have stated laws of the city that is for public show should you wish to even bother reading. We even have IC defence lawyers to take on your case... again... should you even bother to find those out.

    http://larps.net/lc/topic/laws-of-legacies
    http://larps.net/lc/topic/members-of-the-government-judiciary-constabulary

    2. You can't kill a player... "Player" is OOC.. You CAN kill a Character.. that's IC.
Agree the type of death with the attackers OOCly, discuss it and then RP it. That's always been an option. As in everything, you need OOC consent.
    3. If you hex a character, that RP is honored. You cannot tell me that it isn't and if it isn't honoured... PROVE IT.

You spend a great deal of your attitude wanting to dramatise the OOC side of things and that is not tolerated in Legacies. Everything in Legacies is full immersion for characters. OOCly it is a community that must show respect for the fellow actor.

None of your actions show any kind of respect OOCly and for this reason, you have basically dug your own grave.
You'll find that every RP region in SL, Web forums and the like will respond in exactly the same to your constant OOC whines.

As for the Staff running RP.... LOLOLOLOL you have got to be kidding me!!!!

Good luck... you'll need it :P

Story tellers are the high magistrate, prosecutor, defense attorney, and chief of the constables. Oh, and the high magistrate is the daughter of the Dark Lord, the prosecutor is her lover, and the defense attorney is her son.
Story tellers run the Café, Fiendish Pleasures, Tea house, and half owner of the Ten Bells no matter who rents it.
Story tellers are the bulk of the illuminati, now that the non-story teller illuminati have left the SIM. Story tellers play the horse men, and story tellers are the main characters going after the illuminati…that story tellers are playing.
Up until the last election, the Mayor was the lover of a story teller…
I suppose the Sithen. Oh no wait, story tellers are on the high Seely court.
New story tellers are chosen by current story tellers.
Perhaps your claims of non-manipulation would hold more weight if the appearance of SIM didn’t speak to the opposite of your claim so completely. You said people should come up with solutions and not always attack? Here you go:
Only allow ½ of all positions of power in the City to be held by story tellers or direct associates of story tellers.
Have an open board of citizen’s review and evaluate disputes involving story tellers rather than just having story tellers judge other story tellers.
Stop conducting all dispute resolutions in private and not allowing any discussion about it. Secrecy adds to the rumors and increases the distrust the average player has for the story tellers.

Anything can be justified ICly, and it is impossable to have direct proof of someone's intent unless they tell you directly "I am doing this because I have a personal problem with you." Otherwise you have to depend on a collection of IC events to prove your case, but any action can be justified ICly and so does not count as proof according to you. Despite the same thing happing to others in the same manner, becaus it can also be justified ICly. So 'show me proof', is set up so that proof can never be achieved.

Good day, good luck, good grief

  6. TriJin | August 15, 2011 - 10:22 PM

Cereno, go sit in your corner. I've made a special skill for you ... "Emo" set at Legendary.

You know what you are writing is untrue... so quit the OOC.

  7. TriJin | August 15, 2011 - 10:32 PM

Cereno, you are not banned at all In Legacies from any RP or the regions, so stop telling people you are. However, if you really wish to be, just pop a message on here and I'llget it arranged for you.

Rather than stirring the OOC drama cauldron, why not give some ideas of how YOU think things should be run.
How would YOU choose a new ST....
    I'm all ears... speak up.

So quit the bitch n moan and be a man. Let's hear something constructive from the top end orifice.

  8. Leigh Huet | August 15, 2011 - 10:50 PM

I have read and watched this and feel saddened by it. What most do not realize is that those that have become ST's are such because of the hard work they put into their own personal RP following the rules and guidelines of Legacies. Knowing the difference between OOC and IC one of the easiest and for some most difficult line.

All the ST's were players first and have been here for a long time before they were asked to become ST's. It is not an easy job and all done through volunteering our time and dedication to what we love...the community of Legacies.

What saddens me the most is my character had learned about some of the problems Thomas is having IC'ly and is checking into all the allegations to find the truth as Nimi is also a prosecutor.

There are times story lines do not go the way we want or expect. There are times that because of my real life health some RP's are now biting me in the butt IC'ly because I am not available to RP as much as I used to. I have a choice in how I can react and the best is to move forward. Some story lines get dropped. Some move on without our character but that does not mean it can't be picked back up or take another turn. The only way to do that though is to get out their and RP. Anyone who feels they have gotten their character in a corner they didn't expect or want is welcome to talk to any of the ST's or guides for ideas of ways to get out of those corners, make a decision as to which they will do, and then put feet to it by getting out among the characters and RPing. This is the beauty of RP for nothing is scripted, no outcomes planned, we all have ideas we want for our character but because of the community it may change as long as we are opened to it and for me that is the beauty of RP.

So I end this by saying....rock your RP's enjoy your time in Legacies as I hope as much as I do...and most of all enjoy the journey your characters walk because you never know when those forks in the road happen.

  9. Astrid Floresby | August 15, 2011 - 10:52 PM

First off, since this is a place to rant, I would like to say how infuriating your post is. I have been RPing Astrid for almost a year now. I have worked hard on her. She was the owner of the Tea Room and on the Sithen council long before I was an ST. The Tea Room and hotel was dead RP before then. Am I supposed to just drop my RP that I have worked hard at, the RP that led me to an ST position in the fist place? I can't stand by and feel insulted attacked over something you don't know. Want to know how and why Astrid became the owner the Tea Room? There's a story there. All RPed out. But you have to ask.

There is so much wrong in your post, but to be honest, I don't think you'd listen, so I don't care to waste to my time. I just felt I needed to stand up for what I felt personally attacked about.

And for the record, I sincerely hope you find RP you enjoy.

  10. Nimue Macbeth | August 15, 2011 - 11:09 PM

I have been playing here for 2 years. I am not a story teller, and only recently became a greeter, because I felt it was time to give something back to the community. I can only speak for myself, but I have not had any problems with the story tellers here at legacies. I have role played all over legacies, and find that Fiendish Pleasure, the Cafe, Ten Bells, the tea room, the hospital, all are open to all the players of Legacies. Yes when I first came, just like in real life the character has to grow into the new environment. Izala wandered the city, found a job, and began to meet other residents. Izala is continuously growing, evolving. Her role play shows it. Yes there is intrigue, plots formed, but it is all role play. Some times Izala succeeds and other times her plots fail.

Personally, my hat is off to the moderators, helpers, and storytellers. They help make this such a wonderful place to role play. They are dedicated people, giving of their time freely. It is not a job I envy.
They are not a snobby click, but very friendly people that want to help make our role play better. Try role playing with them, learn from them. You will have a wonderful experience.

  11. Ophelia Applewhyte | August 15, 2011 - 11:16 PM

I have been a player here for a year and a half. I am here most days because I love this place. It is where creativity is nurtured and respected. I was asked to serve as a ST a year ago and I agreed. As a result my RP is interrupted constantly with questions, needs and complaints none which I take willingly. Sometimes I have to do things to protect other players or the sim that give me a stomach ache yet I do them all. Why? Because I love Legacies. I have no job yet I contribute around $100 to keep this place open for the wonderful creative outlet that is it. Not just for myself but others. Yet today I come in here and find myself attacked by another player. A player I have greeted, listened to, assisted at the expense of my own RP. One I RP with frequently. You say the STs control the RP, your RP. The STs are forcing your RP. If this is such a controlled environment, why then are you allowed to draw back your arm and slap me across the face as if I have no feelings or rights whatsoever? Why are you able to insult me though I have done nothing to you? Your complaint is that the STs would not godmod another player when you did not like where the story went. By refusing to hamper the creativity of fellow players we have earned your ire. It is because every player here is respected by the STs even if that is not returned. In essence, by not doing the very things you accused us of we are now being attacked. You talk about the sithen? Get your facts straight. I built it. I worked months, long hard months, building it, ICLY and OCly with other players. That entire area and the RP there exists because I AM A PLAYER. Not because I am an ST, Not because Trijin built it. It is a product of my and a small group of players imaginations. Let us get back to my earlier question. "If this is such a controlled environment, why then are you allowed to draw back your arm and slap me across the face as if I have no feelings or rights whatsoever?" The answer to that is glaringly clear. IT IS BECAUSE THERE ARE UNTRUTHS IN YOUR CLAIMS. You put this rant of insults and angry spewings here because you wanted to get even for what you perceive as a slight. Because you want to show your friends how you were wronged. You underestimate the players here. They are bright, creative and have the ability to read between the lines. Even as they read this they are seeing the truth in the words printed here. I have faith in Legacies and the people who are part of this community even if you do not.

  12. Faith Diesel | August 15, 2011 - 11:23 PM

This post Cereno makes me very very upset. I have been an ST for more than a year now and I have seen first hand how tirelessly all the STs and moderators work to make everyone's time in Legacies an enjoyable one. We do it for free and often sacrificing our own rp for other players.

The reason most of us have significant roles is because we made those roles and worked bloody hard icly to forge them. FP and the cafe for example didnt exist before Vedis and Leigh created them. Sais was made an ST in no small part for her contribution to Legacies in her role as commissioner - she was commissioner first not the other way round. STs cannot run for Mayor - its a rule and mayors are voted for by the players characters. The Sithen was the brainchild of a group of people some STs some not. Astrid was not an ST at the time of the Sithen creation nor when she took over the Tea rooms which like the Ten Bells had been rather forgotten as an rp venue for a bit. Viola is now making great strides with inventive rp in the Ten Bells and who knows her dedication there may one day contribute to her joining the ST throng.

No ST character is all powerful. We all wear the same larps system like any other player.

Anyone can rp doing and being whatever they like as long as it is plausible for their character and the backstory of the sim. If you want to throw over the government icly, work damn hard at your rp, be imaginative and make it happen. Just dont be surprised though if some other character comes in and takes the story off in another direction or chops you up and leaves you in a suitcase. Dont winge and moan oocly. Get your thinking caps on and roleplay the consequences with as much creativeness as Conan Doyle, Mary Shelley or Douglas Adams.

ok, big baddy here.. putting on my scarey face >.<

no seriously, I am an St you all know me.. you all have been with me.. I only came to legacies to play, just over a year ago, and I was greeted with open arms.. eventually after looooooooooooooong grueling circumstances i was asked to be an ST, hesitantly I wnet.. never have a regretted helping players at the expense of my RP, yes.. there is A story teller helping with the Illuminati rp.. cause its to assist the players in it.. guilty as charged.. as for the horsemen.. what you don't know is it was ELECTED who would be one, each one supported by another, the fact I am amung them has nothing to do with my status, but an honor I didn't ask for from players I love and respect they have proven to me they were picked wisely and I confess, I'm lucky to be their friend... Cereno.. I have helped you, answered any question you asked me without any hesitation and assisted you as all the STs have with their talent and skills I still am in awe of.. never mind the talent of the Moderators who defend all players equally... personally I feel like Ceaser.. but as with RL throw a stone at me and I will hug you... be safe.. take care and live happy, remember you make your fate.. noone else

Happy RP all of you and have a great time in legacies

  14. Naia Madruga | August 15, 2011 - 11:30 PM

Wow, that was some rant. Well I have been here for over a years. Now, I don't understand the rant about the magistrates and such. I have seen that the RP of the legal system is done very well, with a lot of in depth work. So I fail to see why Thomas is complaining about a legal system his character never used. Sometime you may not like the turn your character is taking,or you don't like your character. My answer is then create a new one, or talk to a ST and get some creative help for your character.

As for the former mayor being the lover of a story teller well, there was a story line there, and I for one was glad she won. It had nothing to do with her being the lover of a story teller. She was asked by a few of the characters to run. They convinced her to run.

As for your ridicules request, that only 1/2 of the positions be given to story tellers, are you saying that those player that work hard on their characters and happen to be story tellers be punished? It seems to me what you want is to be given a choice role for your character without ever working for it, or developing your character. To do good role play, it takes time to develop your character. Just like in real life, you have to crawl before you can walk. You sound as if you want to take off flying, without having earned your wings, and then complain like a child because things don't go your way.

By the way, the new mayor, is a new player and not related to any story teller.

One last thing, I am not a story teller, or a greeter, or a moderator. I am just a role player and want to thank all those that work so hard to make this a wonderful place to role play.

  15. Nimilanor Delvalle | August 15, 2011 - 11:46 PM

Ok.. i wasn't initially going to reply.. but i feel i have to say my piece aswell..

Some of you know me.. some of you may not perhaps.

I came to legacies less than a year ago.. the verry first day, i arrived.. i've had some great rp encounters with most people.
honestly the entire legacies community drew me right in.. they inspired me.. let my creativity flow and even helped me find new ways for my characters grow, that i had not even remotely been capable of thinking off, for that im gratefull.
I've not been in legacies aslong as all the others sadly, but i can say with a straight face.. that the garbage you posted is not only unbased and unfounded.. its just sad. And a huge slap in the face for everyone that has worked to make legacies great.

I like to think that I was asked to become an ST, for my roleplaying capability's and my love for helping others, with anything.. wether it be a problem, a listening ear, a character development issue / background ideas. an IC issue, or a larps issue of any kind, It doesn't matter I love helping others, and to read all this just saddens me,

also because my character was just on an investigation as leigh mentioned to help see if thomas was indeed innocent or guilty.
maybe next time you will think of approaching the ST's for advice and or guidance if need be. thats what we are there for. to help others.

I wish you luck in your further Secondlife experience and hope you find a new home to roleplay in.

  16. Nicolie Luv | August 16, 2011 - 12:31 AM

There was an application an notice sent out for the dean of the university for 3 months no one replied, instead of letting it go without a I applied for the position and did a Roleplay with Ruin when he was mayor to have the position, it was all Roleplayed our storytellers had no impact on me getting it and if someone else had taken the incentive to take the dean roll I would have gladly stepped aside. As for being prosecution for the crown, if you would like to step up and take the role, I will gladly step aside and let you have it, however NOT ONCE have you stepped up to ask about it ICLY and I was a constable before I was an ST, as well as a defensive attorney, each move was role played out and only taken because no one else took interest in the job so in order to keep the roles filled I took it, so we could have a court. Being Leighs Lover has nothing to do with my ability to do the job, it was decided by more people than her. You speak of things you really have no idea about, I suggest you do proper research before bashing people and putting them down. As for The former mayor being involved with a ST, SO WHAT, she ran for the office she did the Roleplay, and the storyteller she is involved with purposely stayed out of it as not to have any impact on it, each person had a fair shot. As for other sts picking sts....you sir are mistaken we gave the community a chance to pick sts, if you go back through notices you will see we tried to get input NO ONE wanted to help they thought we should do it so be it the people spoke we did as they wished.
and what goes on between Leigh and I oocly has nothing to do with how we interact ICLY, as our ic an ooc relationships vary we do not discuss role play when we are not in IC, so before you go ranting about things, I suggest you step up and try to do something about it, any position is open for any player all they have to do is show interest, when I first came to legacies I went to ever and I mean every class sometimes going back to the same one several times to learn how things worked here. I was not given the ST position I earned it but taking interest in how things worked and learning asking questions and not causing drama. I Roleplayed alone for a bit, hiding in the shadows and just posting things in residents while I observed, Leigh and I were not together till after I was an ST not that it is any of your business but to ease your mind. The ST's are not picked because we agree with each other on things, quite the opposite, we are picked because we are not afraid to speak our mind but are able to work with others to come to a resolution. If you think for one moment we do not get in trouble if we do something wrong, you are sadly mistaken we have to answer to TRIJIN himself and that is something you really don't want to have to do, when he has entrusted you with helping to care for his sim. All of your issues sound as if you have had a barrel of sour grapes because you did not even make it into the prelims of the mayor race but the ones that did worked for it, they gave speeches they did the roleplay you were barley heard of. Many people have left Legacies and those same people have returned because they could not find the level of RP that is offered here, I'm sure if you ask around you will find that out as well. Legacies has been around for 3 years, while other sims have came an gone, you need to really do some serious research or learn creativity before you start making slanderous statements to others, you sir are very much with out honor, and if all your complaints are coming from your mouse I suggest find a mouse trap and start listening to people outside of your head.

  17. Jitterbug Haggwood | August 16, 2011 - 12:35 AM

Everyone has so eloquently responded to the rant above...I find it hard to add anything really that would be said as well. I will say this, however, I came to Legacies in March 2010 looking for quality RP...What did I find? My best experience ever in Second Life...in rp period...the best group possible of players, storytellers, moderators...and quite frankly...the best damn group of people I know. So, I find it incredibly insulting that one person would try to so slury the pond. I am truly sad that this has not turned out to be the rp experience you had hoped it would...I give so many hours of my life to Legacies...a place I truly love. As well, I personally spent time offering advice, assisting with situations...all in hopes that you could find what you were looking for. I wish you well, Thomas, in your future endeavors and truly hope you grow a pair such that you can stand on your own two feet rather than throw words around oocly for what you were unable to do icly. Best Wishes...nothing but that great wonderful of rp waits for you...Good luck.

  18. Pseudo Thespian | August 16, 2011 - 02:35 AM

    Hi...

I for one wish to just say that since coming to Legacies over a year ago, I have had the most wonderful and educational experiences with regard to roleplay on the grid. I understand the frustrations on both sides of this coin as I have felt them in the past but when I sat down and really thought about it, I realized it was always within MY power to change the direction of my character. Therefore, I took some time off and completely left the sim. I did other activities, caught up with old OOC friends and above all did some research.

I am a writer, actor and a total drama queen. While I enjoy these attributes, they are not my only talents inside and outside of SL. Perhaps a break is necessary and would do you some good, Thomas. I am not here to suggest such in a condescending manner or as one that is foolish to believe that what worked for me will also work for you. It is a suggestion and stops there.

As for the staff, I will say this. I find most of them willingly give their time, attention and diplomatic opinions to better serve the community as a whole. I've yet to find one that is entirely self serving and unable to hold themselves in check. Of course, I have not had much interaction with them on a moderated level. I do my best to keep my play according to the rules. In fact, I pay it forward whenever I am able to with getting new players educated and affiliated with the meter to the best of my knowledge. I feel we all need to own this responsibility whether we wear an ST tag or not. As Trijin has pointed out and tried to make abundantly clear to all that play here, it is OUR community!

I invite you to research the grid Thomas as I have done. I think you will find, not only is this community filled with some of the best writers and actors on the grid, the meter itself is priceless and like none other. Most other places are filled with hack and slash idiots that feel their roleplay skills are based on how quickly they can trigger their finger and track an object on the screen. That's never been my style and this kind of play is not roleplay in opinion. Its what my teens do on their PS3 machines and WII games. BLECH!

In closing, I also invite you to contact me OOCly and perhaps I can further discuss this topic at that level. I will do my best to share with you what I have learned if you are interested. I will tell you now, this in NO WAY is an invitation to bash ANYONE. It is simply a chance to discuss and hopefully share with you what I have learned about ME, the player, the writer and the actor.

Good luck and happy trails! :)

  19. Rune Crimson | August 16, 2011 - 06:08 AM

Ok I thought I might add somethings here too for I have been following it and for the most part left it upto Trijin and found he was doing a great job. But to come on here and bash the people that work hard everyday for us....thats just out right wrong man. I have been RPing here for going on two years...and in the beginning and you can ask Leigh I was all against this place it was complicated to me and I was as argumentative as I could be. But do you know what...unlike most places who would not have given me a time of day the way I acted I was greeted and welcomed and helped and calmed down and talked to over and over and over to the point of understanding more and looking at the people in a different light. I left a hack and slash place that pissed me off to no end and found this place. I did not think I would stay and I did...and no my time here has not gone without having a few problem...I have been under the eye of the STs more then once...but to be honest any other place would have banned me by now...but they talk to me try and help me look at the things I am doing..whether I agree or not...I have to say their way of handling it made me think. It was never yelling or bashing always with utmost respect for me and my feelings. And hats off to them cause I am not the easiest person to deal with sometimes. As for the whole STs are chosen by STs I beg to differ on that buddy....I watched the forums when they asked us to choose a few times and I posted a number of times choosing one of my own choices. And as far as the whole Illuminati...you should follow the RP man cause if you would have you would have found out that Rune himself was asked to do most of the foot work on finding the illumanati and I am not a ST. I am a greeter but one on hiatus for I felt that I had things to work on before I could stand up there and call myself a member of the staff for I have respect for them and myself to the point of working on such things. I might not agree with everything that goes on or how things are handled but you find a place that can handle it any better I doubt that happens. We are human noone is perfect and all things are a work in progress in life. In most cases my problem is I hate my ego being damaged and what it seems Thomas is that you have the same problem..one thing I am working on and you should be.

In Closing. I have a great time in Legacies even if I have issues I take a break or vent to those that allow me to and go about my business I want to say the STs Mods guides and Trijin do a damn good job. Keep up the good work.

  20. Artur Lionheart | August 16, 2011 - 03:50 PM

I guess I will throw my two cents into this since there was some aspects of RP that Cereno brought in.

The Sithen was not an ST driven thing at all. That concept of the rp was originated by me when I brought Artur into the game about a year and half ago now, and it was always the overdriving goal of his to unite the unwanted and the exiled Fae to want such a thing. It took near 6 months worth of rp, with some sucesses, and sometimes some let downs, but it was RP, and it was real for it if it had happened with snap of one fingers, then the rp itself would of been meaningless. It was a lot of hard work by people, some of which may of been StoryTellers, but trust me, they were there in a support role sa a Fae Haven within Legacies was not their main rp arch either. The only OOC stuff came when we started to dicuss with Tri and the owners of Torn Oak how do we actually get a physical space on the grid to represent the Sithen, and it worked out well the way things came about, but that was the extent of Staff involvment. Everything else was player driven rp. As for the Sithen Council, when first made up, there were more players then ST's a part of it. The reason why that is not the case now is not that Staff is trying to horde it, its because it was great rp and people wanted to be a part of it. For about four to five months the Sithen, what it represented to Legacies, was it a good thing, a bad thing, a force of stability, an agent of chaos, had its fingers in many people's rp. To me that is pretty damned cool to see a germ of an idea spring into something that was talked about with characters that were only on the fringes. People did that, Players did that, not metagaming, not godmoding, just ole fashion rp and going with it. Now did I agree with all the twist and turns the rp took, not always, and sometimes when you are the originator of an idea, its hard to see something you worked on twist out of your control, but in the end, the concept had to be bigger then me and my vision, it had to grow and expand as it did.

As far as key positions out there being filled by people that are now ST's, the reason for that is people went out there, rp'd their little tushes off, and asked for what they got. Artur didn't become a Magistrate because staff thought I was a good little rper, patted me on my head and gave me a cookie. It came out from an RP opportunity and I made it happen, and have been doing so ever since, my time of illness and fun in the hospital aside. The fact there are so few defense lawyers and prosecutors isn't because we are excluding people, its that no one wants the job. In all my time being a Magistrate, going on close to a year now, I've only heard of three players asking for the responsibility. Three.

Legacies is a great place, its life, its real, and day in and day out, I love it. However like all good thigns, they aren't going to be handed to you on a silver platter. You have to go out there and earn it and get it yourself, bask in the victories, roll with the roadblocks, and soldier on. Nothing is ever going to happen if all you do is sit in your rental house and twiddle your thumbs. In the end its a game, and if it's causing you the vemon I am seeing above, then maybe its time for a change to someplace else. Of all the live based RP's I have been in, Legacies has by far been the most fair. Perfect? Nope, not always. Siding with my point of view, perhaps rarely, but its always done with the best they can do and fairly and that is alright in my book.

Thomas's rant is harsh, but I can feel some of his pain. It took me a year after I'd begun in SL to be able to cleanly separate IC and OOC. Oh intellectually I understood the distinction long before. But my emotions did not understand, and I found myself distressed by what happened IC as if it happened to me. Many players get their feathers singed in full-immersion role play sims. And it can feel as if the sim leaders are conspiring against you. And it can really feel like you can't seem to RP the right thing, with the right players, at the right time, in the right amount, in the right way, and for the right reasons. But eventually the lessons of effective rp sink in. Nowadays I win a few, and I lose a few, and I try not to worry.

To me, full immersion role play requires not only investing in our character's 'character', but also by role playing frequently enough, and for long enough, and consistently or regularly enough so that you don't cause big holes in the great developing stories through your absence. Many good role players in Legacies are devoted enough to be in the sim, every day or near to it, for hours a day. And I've found that these Legacies regulars work hard to stay current with Legaciies practices and policies. There are a lot, so that's no mean feat. These people most naturally become STs. Some in Legacies citizens simply cannot devote the time and energy required to be fully supporting the sim, like me. I don't engage in the full-feature role plays because I'm not in-world often and long enough to make good on big roles. I don't want to let the other role players down, that's all. So I don't plan to become an ST. I try to contribute in other ways. I ran the hospital soon after I'd joined Legacies, so I know opportunities abound for not-STs. Nowadays I help newbies when many others are too immersed in role plays. The point is that each of us can find an acceptable way to 'be' in Leg, and we can change our minds as frequently as we change our socks. Now I run my own little Legacies business and I don't need quite so deep am immersion. It works for me that way, and I think it produces some small amount of benefit for the sim. Nearly each and every one of the ST's has earned the right to be one. But if like me you can't play at that level, I'd say find a setup where you can play, and do that well.

I went through several rp sims before arriving at Legacies a couple of years ago, and I never saw any to even come near it. The tenacity with which the ST's and Tri keep every important function running is incredible, That stability lets the talent just spring from the many talented role players. Many here like me don't want to be anywhere else.

Read thru this and I have to say, there's very little left to say after the supportive comments that had been made by our players. I will however say this-

Raylon is indeed a defense attorney - a damned good one at that I might add.

    Note this however:
Raylon was FIRST a defense attorney. In the previous sim we came from, he was a lawyer. His initial roleplay coming here was finding somewhere to live and set up his business - and Mateem's RP to help him with that endeavor. They were both established members of the community BEFORE Raylon was sired to be Leigh's son. And it was after all that Raylon and myself - the players - were asked to be STs, and we accepted.

Are we going to drop our characters' RPs that we worked so hard to create just because took up the duty of ST's? Nope. Nope, nope, nope and ah, NO.

Why do ST's pick the other ST's? Because the STs see their creativity in RP, which is a needed skill sometimes and because they see and have record of how well they handle themselves OOCly in difficult or stressful situations.

Why do we handle issues privately? How would you like it if your mistakes or embarrassing slip ups that fired off in the heat of the moment were broadcast to every player here? I can't imagine anyone would enjoy that in the least. I know I've made my fair share of badly timed words and done a fair deal of mess ups (who the hell doesn't?). And I'm grateful as hell that it's not on public record.
