Want to be involved? Get an IC job!
(2 posts)-
I might get flack for this rant, but I think it should be said. There is no shortage of IC jobs and yet they continually go unfilled, often to the point the same jobs are advertised over and over again because no one applies.
I realize there are legitimate reasons, but IC and OOC, for a player to keep their character unemployed. Some players are happy with their RP as it is or their character is in a situation where a job is not possible. Fair enough.
But to those players who stand around wondering how to get more RP and how to become more involved in the Legacies storyline, to you I say...get your character a job.
I'm serious. Not only does IC employment help the city function like a city (How many RPs have been hampered by the lack of constables?), it opens the door to all sorts of RP opportunities. Yes, I realize a number of players simply do not have to the time to be a constable or doctor. Those are demanding, RP intensive positions. But there are plenty others, like a server or librarian, that only require you to work an average of an hour per day, if that. With so many different jobs available, chances are you'll if the one right for your RP and character.
Being a server or a bank assistant does sound boring, doesn't it? It’s hard to see how anything significant could come of taking such a job. However, keep in mind that a job gets your character interacting with other character, some of whom you may never speak to IC otherwise. This opens up opportunities. My character, Romelle, met Mo while working as the manager in the tea room. It was then, after some conversation, that Mo asked Romelle to be her running mate. Now my character is vice mayor. I’m not saying my character is somehow special. What I am saying is that you never know where even a seemingly insignificant IC job might lead.

Very well said. I Rped my character as jobless for a time and I will say this, it was not very fun and it wasn't something that was very reasonable for the character. The only point Rommy missed is this: Is your character not working true to your character?
While I will say her character is special, so is yours. Each character is because it is written and you get to write with other people. Do you kjnow how COOL that is? e.e very. So... go fill those job posts!
